A World of Warships tech tree XP calculator estimates how much ship experience you still need to unlock a chosen ship, based on your current progress and the displayed research cost. Enter the total XP requirement and the XP already earned; the result is the remaining XP, not a prediction of battles or time needed.
Formula
Remaining XP = total XP required − XP already earned. Progress (%) = XP already earned ÷ total XP required × 100. In these formulas, required and earned are experience points (XP); remaining is the XP still needed, and progress is the percentage of the requirement completed. Enter values from the ship’s research information in the game. This calculation assumes the earned amount applies to that ship’s requirement and does not exceed it.
Worked Example
Using the calculator’s defaults:
- Total XP required: 10,000 XP
- XP already earned: 0 XP
- Remaining XP: 10,000 − 0 = 10,000 XP
- Progress: 0 ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 0.0%
The first result is the remaining amount needed to meet the entered requirement. If you have earned more XP than the requirement, subtracting produces a negative number; correct the inputs rather than interpreting that as XP owed.
What a WoWS Tech Tree XP Calculator Does
World of Warships (WoWS) uses research progress to unlock many ships in its tech trees. A calculator is useful for simple planning: it subtracts your current progress from the XP cost shown for the next ship. It does not access your account, look up your branch automatically, or know which ship and game mode you are using.
The calculator also cannot reliably translate an XP deficit into a fixed number of battles. XP earned varies with battle performance and other game factors, and some bonuses or events may change the amount credited. Treat the result as a progress gap, not a schedule.
How to Find the Numbers
- Open the relevant tech tree and select the ship you want to research.
- Read the research XP requirement shown in the game. Use that figure as Total XP required.
- Check the ship’s research progress and enter the XP already credited toward that exact requirement.
- Calculate the remaining XP, then compare the result with the in-game display before making a decision.
Keep the values tied to the same ship and research path. A branch may require research through preceding ships, and the XP needed for a later ship is not necessarily the same as the amount left to unlock it. If the game presents several research steps, calculate each step separately or use the appropriate displayed total for the whole route.
Ship XP, Free XP, and Other Progress
A frequent source of confusion is treating all experience as interchangeable. Ship XP is associated with a particular ship and is generally used for that ship’s research. Free XP is a separate resource that can be applied to research where the game allows it. The calculator above handles only the numeric difference between a requirement and an entered amount; it does not determine which XP types are available or eligible.
Likewise, a ship’s research cost is not the same thing as its purchase cost. Unlocking a ship and purchasing it are distinct steps, and credits or other in-game requirements may apply. This XP calculator does not estimate those costs, upgrades, modules, equipment, or the total resources needed to outfit a ship.
How to Interpret Results and Avoid Errors
- Use the current displayed requirement. Do not rely on an old guide or a figure from a different ship or branch; game data and progress can change.
- Enter XP, not credits. XP is a research measure, while credits are a separate in-game currency.
- Do not double-count progress. Enter the XP credited toward the selected research requirement, not a total that includes unrelated ships or resources.
- Check the progress cap. Earned XP should normally be from zero through the requirement. A negative remainder usually means the wrong value or ship was entered.
- Remember rounding. XP is entered as a whole number here, while the percentage is rounded to one decimal place. The game’s own display is the reference for actual progress.
For example, if a ship requires 50,000 XP and the relevant progress is 32,500 XP, the remaining amount is 50,000 − 32,500 = 17,500 XP. That answer says nothing by itself about how many battles will provide 17,500 XP.
Limits and Useful Alternatives
This is a manual calculator, not a live WoWS data tool. It cannot verify account progress, account for a discount or special event, identify a ship’s current cost, or calculate how much XP a particular battle will award. For those details, check the current in-game research screen and the rules shown there. If planning a longer route, make a separate row for each ship or research step and keep the XP requirement, progress, and resource type clearly labeled.
If your question is “how many battles until I unlock it?”, first estimate your typical XP per battle from your own recent results in the relevant ship and mode. Dividing the XP gap by that average gives only a rough estimate, since battle results vary. Do not treat a single match or a promotional bonus as a guaranteed average.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate XP needed for the next WoWS ship?
Subtract the XP already credited to that ship’s research from the requirement shown in the tech tree. The difference is the remaining XP.
Can I use Free XP in this calculator?
You can enter a value to calculate a numerical difference, but the calculator does not determine how much Free XP you have or whether it can be applied to a particular research step. Check the game’s current research screen.
Does ship XP carry over to the next ship?
Do not assume it does. Ship XP and Free XP are different resources, and how XP can be used depends on the game’s research rules. Verify the available amount and options in game.
Can this tell me how many battles I need?
No. It calculates the XP gap only. XP per battle varies, so any battle count requires an estimate based on your own results and remains uncertain.
Why does my result differ from the tech tree?
Check that you entered the cost and progress for the same ship and research step, used XP rather than credits, and did not include unrelated progress. The in-game display is authoritative for your current account.
