Discord Nitro Free Epic Games Store: Facts
No, the Epic Games Store does not currently offer Discord Nitro for free, and there is no official promotion that gives you Discord Nitro just for having an Epic Games account. However, there are legitimate ways to get Discord Nitro at no cost, including through Xbox Game Pass Perks, which sometimes bundles Nitro with other rewards, and through occasional Discord giveaways run by Discord itself or partnered servers. This article explains how those offers actually work, what to watch out for, and how to avoid scams.
What Discord Nitro Actually Is
Discord Nitro is a paid subscription tier for the Discord chat platform. It comes in two levels: Nitro Basic (about $2.99/month) and Nitro (about $9.99/month). The main benefits are:
- Higher upload limits (up to 500 MB for Nitro, 50 MB for Basic, versus 10 MB for free users)
- Custom emojis and stickers usable across all servers
- Animated profile pictures and custom profile themes
- Two free Server Boosts (for Nitro) or one (for Basic)
- Custom Discord tag (e.g., your username without the four numbers)
- HD video streaming and screen share quality
Nitro is a recurring subscription, not a one-time purchase. Any “free Nitro offer you see is almost always a limited-time trial (usually 1–3 months) or a promotional bundle tied to another service.
Why the Epic Games Store Connection Exists
The confusion likely comes from the fact that both Discord and Epic Games regularly run cross-promotions with other companies. For example, Epic has given away free games weekly since 2018, and Discord has partnered with Xbox, PlayStation, and Amazon Prime. But there has never been an official Epic Games Store promotion that grants Discord Nitro. Searching for “Epic Games Nitro mostly returns third-party giveaways, old news about Discord’s own Nitro giveaways, or scam sites pretending to offer free Nitro in exchange for your Epic login.
Legitimate Ways to Get Discord Nitro Free
If you want Nitro without paying, these are the current, verified methods (as of 2024):
- Xbox Game Pass Perks: If you have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscription, check the Perks section in the Xbox app or on the Game Pass website. Discord Nitro (usually 3 months) is frequently offered as a perk. You need an active Game Pass subscription, but you can often get a 14-day trial of Game Pass for $1 or even free, which makes the Nitro effectively free.
- Discord’s official giveaways: Discord occasionally runs giveaways on its official Twitter/X account or in its own Discord server. These are rare and require you to follow instructions, but they are legitimate.
- Partnered server giveaways: Some large Discord servers (especially game communities) host Nitro giveaways as a reward for activity. These are not official, but they are legal and safe if the server is legitimate.
- Promotional bundles with other services: Occasionally, companies like Samsung, Google, or other gaming platforms bundle Nitro with a device purchase or a subscription. These are not common but do happen.
None of these involve the Epic Games Store directly.
How to Spot a Scam
Scammers know people want free Nitro, so they create fake websites or Discord bots that promise Nitro in exchange for your Epic Games login, your Discord token, or by completing surveys. Red flags include:
- Messages from strangers claiming you “won Nitro
- Links that do not go to discord.com or discordapp.com
- Requests for your password, 2FA code, or Discord token
- Surveys that ask for credit card information
- Bots that ask you to “verify by typing your password into a fake login page
Discord and Epic Games will never ask for your password. If you see such a message, report it and do not click any links.
Comparing Nitro to Free Discord Features
If you are considering whether Nitro is worth it, here is a quick comparison:
- File uploads: Free users get 10 MB per file; Nitro Basic gets 50 MB; Nitro gets 500 MB. For most users, 10 MB is enough for images and short clips, but not for high-quality videos or large documents.
- Emojis: Free users can use custom emojis only in the server they are in, but cannot use them across servers. Nitro lets you use any emoji anywhere.
- Server Boosts: Free users can boost servers with real money (each boost costs $2.99/month). Nitro includes boosts, so you get them “free with the subscription.
- Profile customization: Free users have a static profile picture and cannot use animated avatars. Nitro allows animated avatars and custom themes.
For casual users, the free tier is fine. For active gamers who share clips and use many servers, Nitro’s quality-of-life improvements are noticeable.
Common Misconceptions
One common myth is that Epic Games gives Nitro as a reward for buying certain games or reaching a level in Fortnite. This is false. Epic has its own rewards system (like Fortnite Crew or V-Bucks), but it does not include Discord Nitro. Another myth is that you can “hack Nitro by using a modified Discord client. That is against Discord’s Terms of Service and can result in your account being banned. There is no legitimate way to get Nitro without paying or using an official promotion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get Discord Nitro for free from Epic Games Store?
No. As of now, there is no official promotion linking Epic Games Store to Discord Nitro. Any website claiming otherwise is likely a scam.
Is Xbox Game Pass the only way to get free Nitro?
It is the most reliable and recurring method. Discord also runs occasional giveaways, but they are not scheduled. Other promotions appear from time to time, but Game Pass Perks is the one you can actively check.
Will I get banned for using a free Nitro trial from a giveaway?
No, as long as the giveaway is legitimate (e.g., from Discord or a trusted partner). Using a stolen credit card or abusing trial codes can lead to a ban, but a standard promotional code is safe.
How long does a Nitro trial last?
Typically 1 to 3 months, depending on the promotion. Xbox Game Pass perks usually give 3 months. After the trial ends, you are downgraded to free unless you cancel or resubscribe.
Can I stack multiple Nitro trials?
No. Discord usually prevents stacking. If you already have Nitro, redeeming a trial code will extend your subscription by the trial length, but you cannot have two active Nitro subscriptions.
What should I do if I clicked a fake Nitro link?
Immediately change your Discord password and enable two-factor authentication. If you entered your Epic Games password, change that too. Scan your computer with antivirus software and revoke any suspicious app authorizations in Discord’s settings.
