FFXIV Event Rewards After the Event Ends

FFXIV Event Rewards After the Event Ends

When a limited-time event in Final Fantasy XIV ends, its unique rewards—such as emotes, minions, mounts, and gear—are removed from the event vendor and become permanently unobtainable through that event. The only exceptions are items that later return via the Mog Station cash shop, the optional item store, or as part of a future seasonal event rerun, which Square Enix has done for several past events. This means that if you miss the event window, you generally cannot get those exact items again unless they are specifically re-released.

How Event Rewards Work

Seasonal events in FFXIV, like the Moonfire Faire, All Saints’ Wake, and the Starlight Celebration, run for a few weeks each year. During that time, players complete a short questline and exchange tokens or currencies for rewards at the event vendor. Once the event ends, the vendor disappears and the quest becomes unavailable until the next year—if the event is repeated at all. Some events are annual, while others are one-off collaborations (e.g., with Yo-kai Watch or the Final Fantasy XV crossover) that may never return.

Rewards are typically bound to your character once acquired, so they cannot be traded or sold on the Market Board. This makes them true collectibles, and their scarcity is a major reason players value them. The game does not automatically delete items you already own; they remain in your inventory, armory chest, or saddlebag forever.

What Happens to Unclaimed Rewards

If you complete the event quest but forget to turn in a token or pick up a reward, the items are simply lost. Event vendors are removed from the game world, and there is no NPC that will trade old tokens for past rewards. The only exception is the Vendor of the Twelve in Limsa Lominsa, which sells some past seasonal event items for gil—but only those that have been explicitly re-added, and only during specific periods or as permanent additions. Most tokens from old events are worthless and can be discarded.

For example, the 2019 Yo-kai Watch collaboration gave players a set of minions and weapons, but the quest and vendor were removed at the end. When the event returned in 2021, players who had missed it could get the same rewards again, but those who had already earned them could not get duplicates. This pattern—event returns with the same rewards—is the most common way old items become available again.

How to Get Past Event Rewards

There are three legitimate ways to obtain rewards from past events:

  • Mog Station (Optional Items Store): Square Enix sells select past event rewards for real money. These are usually the most popular items, like the Wind-up Kefka minion or the Fenrir mount. Prices range from a few dollars to around $15 for mounts. Once purchased, they are delivered to your in-game mailbox and are account-bound.
  • Event Reruns: Some seasonal events return annually with the same rewards. For example, the Valentione’s Day event has repeated, allowing new players to earn the same emotes and furniture. You can check the official Lodestone for announcements about which events are returning each year.
  • Future Events with Similar Items: Occasionally, a new event will offer a reskinned or recolored version of an old reward. For instance, the Wind-up Sun minion from the 2019 Moonfire Faire was later available in a different color via the Mog Station. This is not a direct re-release, but it gives a similar aesthetic.

It is important to note that there is no in-game way to trade or buy past event items from other players. The game’s market board only allows trading items that are not bound, and event rewards are always bound to the character that earns or purchases them.

Common Misconceptions

A frequent question is whether you can still get old event rewards by doing the quest on a new character. The answer is no—the quest itself is removed, so a new character cannot access it. Another misconception is that the Retainer or Vendor of the Twelve will sell everything eventually. That NPC only sells a small, curated set of past event items (like the Bomb Palanquin mount) that Square Enix has chosen to make permanently available for gil. The selection is arbitrary and does not follow a schedule.

Some players also think that if they start the quest before the event ends, they can finish it after. This is not true—the quest is removed from your journal when the event ends, and any incomplete objectives are lost. You must complete the quest and claim all rewards before the maintenance that ends the event.

Comparing Event Rewards to Other Limited Items

Event rewards are similar to other limited-time items in FFXIV, but there are key differences. PvP season rewards, for example, are tied to ranked seasons and are never re-released—they are exclusive to that season’s top players. Collector’s Edition items and pre-order bonuses are also exclusive to those purchases. In contrast, event rewards have a higher chance of returning because Square Enix can easily rerun the event or sell the items on the Mog Station.

The Legacy tattoo and Wind-up Dalamud minion from the 1.0 era are examples of items that have never returned. Event rewards are generally less exclusive than those, but some collaborations (like the Garlean armor from the FFXV event) have not returned and are considered rare. If you see an event reward you like, the safest assumption is that it will not return, and you should get it during the event.

Costs and Risks of Buying from Mog Station

Purchasing past event rewards from the Mog Station is the only guaranteed way to get them outside of an event rerun. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Real Money Cost: Items are priced in USD (or your local currency) and are non-refundable. A single emote might cost $5, while a mount can be $12–$15. There is no bundle discount for buying multiple items.
  • Account Binding: Items are delivered to one character on your account. You cannot transfer them to another character, even on the same account. Choose your character carefully.
  • No Trading: Once purchased, the item is permanently bound to that character. You cannot sell it or give it to a friend.
  • Scam Risk: Do not buy event items from third-party sellers. They can only be obtained through official channels, and any third-party sale is a scam that could get your account banned.

Square Enix has never announced a policy for which items go to the Mog Station. It appears to be a business decision based on popularity and demand. If an item is not on the Mog Station, there is no way to get it except waiting for a possible future rerun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I still get event rewards if I missed the event?

Yes, but only if the specific reward has been re-released via the Mog Station or a future event rerun. Check the Mog Station’s Optional Items section periodically, and watch the Lodestone for announcements about returning events. If the item is not there, it is currently unobtainable.

Do old event tokens have any use?

No. Once the event ends, tokens like Moonfire Faire vouchers or All Saints’ Wake candy have no value. They cannot be exchanged for anything, and they will just take up inventory space. You can safely discard them.

Can I trade event rewards to other players?

No. All event rewards are bound to your character when you obtain them. They cannot be traded, sold on the Market Board, or sent via the mail system. The only way to give an event item to someone else is to buy it for them on the Mog Station, but that is not a trade—it is a direct purchase.

Are event rewards ever added to the Duty Roulette or other content?

No. Event rewards are only obtainable through the event itself or the Mog Station. They are never added as drops from dungeons, raids, or other content. The only exception is the Vendor of the Twelve in Limsa Lominsa, which sells a few selected past event items for gil, but that is a static shop, not a drop.

If I start the event quest but don’t finish, can I finish it later?

No. When the event ends, the quest is automatically removed from your journal. Any progress is lost. You must complete the quest and claim all rewards before the event’s final maintenance.

How often do events return?

Most seasonal events (Moonfire Faire, All Saints’ Wake, Starlight Celebration) return annually with the same rewards. Collaboration events (like Yo-kai Watch or FFXV) are less predictable—some have returned, others have not. Square Enix does not publish a schedule for reruns, so you should assume that an event may not return.
