Bethesda Games Free 24 Hours: Claim Status
As of now, there is no verified offer from Bethesda giving away two games for free for 24 hours. The claim appears on social media and a few fan forums, but no official announcement exists on Bethesda’s website, X (Twitter), or Discord channels. This article explains why the rumor persists, how to check for real offers, and what to do if you see a similar post.
Where the Rumor Started
The “two Bethesda games free for 24 hours claim likely stems from past legitimate giveaways. Bethesda has offered free games during events like E3, QuakeCon, and the anniversary of The Elder Scrolls series. For example, in 2022, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was free for a limited time on the Bethesda launcher. Also, Epic Games Store has given away Bethesda titles like Prey and The Evil Within 2 as part of its weekly free games. These real offers may have been misremembered or combined into a single rumor.
Another source is phishing scams. Malicious sites sometimes post fake “free game headlines to trick users into downloading malware or entering credentials. The 24-hour window is a common urgency tactic used by scammers to pressure quick action.
How to Verify a Real Offer
Always check official channels before clicking any link. Follow these steps:
- Visit Bethesda’s official website (bethesda.net) and look for a news or announcements section.
- Check Bethesda’s official social media accounts (X, Facebook, Instagram) – look for a blue verified badge.
- Search the offer on a reputable gaming news site (IGN, PC Gamer, Eurogamer) – if it’s real, they’ll cover it.
- If the offer is on a storefront (Steam, Epic, GOG), check the store’s own “free or “sales page directly.
- Be wary of shortened URLs or domains that misspell “Bethesda (e.g., “bethesdagames.com vs “bethesda.net).
If you cannot find the offer on any official source, it is almost certainly false.
Common Scams and Red Flags
Fake giveaways often share these warning signs:
- Urgency: “Only 24 hours left! – real offers usually last at least a week.
- Requests for personal info: passwords, credit card numbers, or “verification payments.
- Too-good-to-be-true: two AAA games free for everyone, no strings attached.
- Unusual URLs: misspellings, extra words, or non-“.com TLDs.
- Poor grammar or images that look stretched or low-resolution.
If a post asks you to “share with 10 friends or “like and comment to enter, it’s not an official giveaway – Bethesda does not use those methods.
What to Do If You See the Claim
If you encounter a post about “two Bethesda games free for 24 hours, do not click any links or enter any information. Instead:
- Take a screenshot for reference.
- Search the exact wording on a search engine – if it’s a known scam, others may have reported it.
- Report the post to the platform (Twitter, Facebook, Reddit) as spam or misleading.
- Check Bethesda’s official support page or @BethesdaSupport on X for any alerts.
If you already clicked a link and entered your password, change it immediately and enable two-factor authentication on your Bethesda account.
Legitimate Free Bethesda Games in the Past
To give context, here are some verified free Bethesda games from recent years:
- The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind – free on Bethesda launcher in 2019 for a limited time.
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – free on Bethesda launcher in 2020.
- Fallout 76 – had free trial weekends on Steam and consoles.
- Quake Champions – free-to-play since 2018.
- Prey – free on Epic Games Store in 2021.
These offers were clearly announced on official channels and lasted longer than 24 hours. A 24-hour window is unusual for Bethesda’s own giveaways.
How to Stay Informed About Real Offers
If you want to catch genuine free game deals, use these reliable sources:
- Follow Bethesda’s official social media accounts and enable notifications.
- Subscribe to email newsletters from Steam, Epic, GOG, and Bethesda.
- Use deal aggregator sites like IsThereAnyDeal or r/GameDeals on Reddit – they only list verified offers.
- Check the “Free Games section on Epic Games Store every Thursday – they often include AAA titles.
Remember: if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Official giveaways are always announced on at least one major platform.
