Tip Day: How to Search Messages

To search messages on Tip Day, open the chat or channel you want to search, then use the app’s built-in search bar (usually a magnifying glass icon) and type your keyword. The results will show matching messages from that conversation, or from all conversations if you use the global search. This guide explains the different ways to search messages on Tip Day, including filters, troubleshooting, and tips for finding old or deleted content.

Formula

The calculator works out your average pace and speed for a run or ride. You enter the finish time (in minutes) and the distance (in kilometers). The formulas are:

  • Pace = Time ÷ Distance (minutes per kilometer)
  • Speed = Distance ÷ (Time ÷ 60) (kilometers per hour)

Where:

  • Time (t) – total time in minutes (e.g., 50 minutes)
  • Distance (d) – distance in kilometers (e.g., 10 km)
  • Pace – how many minutes it takes to cover one kilometer
  • Speed – how many kilometers you cover in one hour

Worked Example

Using the default values: t = 50 minutes, d = 10 km.

  1. Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.00 min/km
  2. Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h

So the average pace is 5 minutes per kilometer, and the average speed is 12 kilometers per hour.

How to Search Messages on Tip Day

Tip Day is a messaging app that lets you send texts, photos, and files. Searching messages is a core feature, and there are two main ways to do it: within a specific chat or globally across all your conversations.

Search Inside a Single Chat

  1. Open the chat you want to search.
  2. Tap the chat’s name or the “…â€ menu at the top right.
  3. Select “Search from the dropdown.
  4. Type a keyword, phrase, or even a file name.
  5. Tap “Enter on your keyboard. Results appear as a list of matching messages, with the keyword highlighted.

This works on both mobile and desktop versions of Tip Day. On desktop, you can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac) while a chat is open to bring up the search bar.

Global Search Across All Chats

  1. On the main screen (your chat list), tap the magnifying glass icon at the top.
  2. Type your search term.
  3. Results are grouped by chat, showing the most recent matches first.
  4. Tap any result to jump to that message in its original conversation.

Global search also finds contacts, group names, and even shared links, not just text messages.

Using Filters to Narrow Results

When you search, you can apply filters to find exactly what you need. After typing a keyword, look for filter options (often below the search bar):

  • From: search only messages sent by a specific person.
  • Date: limit results to a specific day, week, or month.
  • Media: filter to only photos, videos, or files.
  • Links: show only shared URLs.

For example, to find a photo your friend sent last month, type the friend’s name in the “Fromâ€ filter and select “Photosâ€ under media. This saves you from scrolling through hundreds of text messages.

Common Problems and Fixes

Sometimes search doesn’t work as expected. Here are the most common issues and how to solve them:

  • No results at all: Check your spelling. Tip Day search is exact-match for most characters, so a typo will return nothing. Also, try a shorter keyword – one or two words usually work better than a full sentence.
  • Old messages missing: If you haven’t backed up your chat history, messages older than a few months might not be indexed on the server. Try scrolling up in the chat to load older messages, then search again.
  • Search is slow: On large chats (thousands of messages), search can take a few seconds. Be patient, or use a more specific keyword to speed it up.
  • Media not found: If you’re searching for a photo, make sure you’re not in the “Textâ€ filter. Switch to “Mediaâ€ or “Allâ€ to include images.

Searching Deleted or Archived Chats

If you archived a chat, it won’t appear in your main chat list, but it still exists. To search within an archived chat:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of your chat list and tap “Archived (or look for the archive icon).
  2. Open the archived chat and search as usual.

If you deleted a chat entirely, the messages are usually gone from your device and from Tip Day’s servers. There is no way to recover them unless you had a backup (e.g., cloud backup or local export).

Tips for Better Search Results

  • Use specific keywords: “birthday partyâ€ instead of “partyâ€.
  • Use quotation marks for exact phrases: “see you tomorrowâ€ will match that exact phrase, not just the words separately.
  • Combine filters: date + sender + keyword narrows down results quickly.
  • Search for file names (e.g., “report.pdfâ€) to find shared documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I search for messages by date only?

Yes, you can use the date filter in the search bar. On mobile, tap the calendar icon and pick a specific day. On desktop, you can type “from: followed by a date (e.g., “from:2023-05-01) to see messages from that day.

Does Tip Day search work offline?

No, Tip Day search requires an internet connection because it queries the server’s index. If you’re offline, you’ll see a “No connectionâ€ error. Once you’re back online, search works normally.

Can I search for emojis?

Yes, you can type an emoji in the search bar and it will match messages that contain that emoji. This works for both single emojis and emoji sequences.

Why doesn’t search find a message I know exists?

Possible reasons: the message is too old and not indexed, you’re in the wrong chat, or the message was sent by a bot (some bots’ messages are excluded). Also, check if you have any active filters that might hide results.

Is there a limit to how many search results I can see?

Tip Day shows the most recent 100 matches per search. If you need older results, refine your search with more specific keywords or a date filter.

Can I search for messages in group chats?

Yes, you can search within a group chat the same way you search a one-on-one chat. The “From filter is especially useful in groups to find messages from a specific member.
