Spotify Listening Stats: How to See Them
- Listening time

- Days in period

Spotify listening stats let you see your most-played artists, songs, and genres over a chosen period, plus your total listening time. You can view them in the app’s Wrapped feature (annual), the “Your Top Songs” and “Artists” playlists (updated regularly), and through third-party sites that use your Spotify data. This article explains every official and unofficial way to check your stats, what each shows, and how to read the numbers correctly.
Formula
The calculator above works out your average daily listening time from two numbers you already have: total hours listened and the number of days in that period. The formula is:
Average daily listening (hours/day) = Total listening time (hours) ÷ Number of days
Where:
- Total listening time is in hours (e.g., 120 hours over a month).
- Number of days is the length of the period (e.g., 30 days for a typical month).
- Average daily listening is the result in hours per day (e.g., 4.0 hours/day).
This is just a simple average – it doesn’t account for days you listened more or less, but it gives a quick sense of your overall habit.
Worked Example
Using the default values from the calculator: you listened for 120 hours over 30 days.
- Write down the total hours: 120 hours.
- Write down the number of days: 30 days.
- Divide: 120 ÷ 30 = 4.
- Result: 4.0 hours per day on average.
That matches the calculator’s output. If you listened 60 hours over 14 days, the average would be 60 ÷ 14 ≈ 4.3 hours/day.
What Spotify’s Own Stats Show
Spotify gives you two main official stat features: Wrapped and the Your Top Songs / Artists playlists. Wrapped appears every December and summarizes your listening from January 1 to October 31 of that year. It shows your top 5 artists, top 100 songs, total minutes listened, top genres, and a few playful cards (like your “audio aura”). The Your Top Songs and Artists playlists are updated periodically (roughly every few weeks) and reflect a rolling window of your recent listening, not the full year.
To find them in the app:
- Go to Search and type “Your Top Songs 2024” or “Your Artists 2024” – the year changes.
- Or go to Made for You hub (under Home) and look for the “Top” playlists.
- Wrapped appears as a banner on the Home screen in December, and you can also view it on the web at spotify.com/wrapped.
These official stats are based on your actual play counts, but they don’t show exact numbers – just rankings. You won’t see “you played this song 47 times” in the app.
How to See Detailed Stats (Minutes, Plays, Rankings)
If you want exact numbers – like total minutes per artist or play counts – you need to use third-party sites that connect to your Spotify account. The most popular ones are Stats.fm (formerly Spotistats), Last.fm (which requires you to scrobble, i.e., track plays manually), and Spotify Pie (a web app that shows your genre breakdown). These services use Spotify’s API to read your listening history, but they only see data from the moment you grant access – they cannot pull your full history from before you connected them.
For a full history, you can request your personal data from Spotify:
- Go to Account → Privacy settings.
- Scroll to “Download your data” and click Request.
- Spotify will email you a link (takes up to 30 days).
- The download includes StreamingHistory.json files with every play (song, artist, timestamp, ms played).
You can then use a script or a site like Stats.fm to import that JSON and see lifetime stats. This is the only way to get complete, exact numbers.
Common Problems and Misconceptions
One common misconception is that Wrapped shows your entire year’s listening. It actually cuts off at October 31, so your November and December plays don’t count. Another is that third-party apps can see your old data – they can’t, unless you import the JSON file. Also, private sessions and offline listening may not count toward stats if you’re not connected to the internet when you play them (offline plays sync later, but sometimes they’re missed).
Another issue: Wrapped is only available on mobile (iOS/Android) and the web version is limited. If you can’t find it, update your app. Also, if you have a free account, you still get Wrapped, but some third-party sites require a premium account to access full history via the API.
How to Choose a Third-Party Stats Site
When picking a third-party service, consider what you want:
- Simplicity – Spotify Pie is a one-click web app that shows your top genres and artists in a colorful chart, no login required (it uses your public profile).
- Detailed history – Stats.fm lets you import your JSON files and see lifetime plays, minutes, and trends, but it’s a paid app (one-time fee).
- Scrobbling – Last.fm is free and tracks plays from any device, but you must connect it and it only collects data from when you start scrobbling.
- Privacy – Always check what data the site asks for. Legit sites only need read access to your profile and listening history; never give a site your password.
Also, be aware that some sites show “all-time” stats based on your API data, but that data only goes back to when you first connected the site, not your entire Spotify life.
How to Read Your Stats Correctly
Your “Top Songs” playlist is a mix of your most played songs in the last few weeks, but it’s weighted by recent plays – a song you played 10 times last week might rank higher than one you played 20 times a month ago. Wrapped, on the other hand, is based on total plays from January to October, so it’s more of a cumulative ranking. When comparing stats from different sources, check the time period they cover; otherwise you might think your top artist changed when it’s just a different window.
Also, note that Spotify counts a play only after you’ve listened for at least 30 seconds (or 50% of the song, whichever is less). Skipping a song after 10 seconds doesn’t count. This is why your stats might not match what you think you listened to.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I see my Spotify stats on iPhone or Android?
Open the Spotify app, go to the Home tab, and look for the “Made for You” section. Tap “See all” to find your Top Artists and Top Songs playlists. For Wrapped, wait for December and check the banner on Home, or visit spotify.com/wrapped in a browser.
Can I see my Spotify stats without Wrapped?
Yes. Your Top Songs and Artists playlists are updated regularly, so you can see your current top tracks and artists any time. For exact numbers, use a third-party site like Stats.fm or request your data from Spotify.
Why don’t my Spotify stats match what I actually listen to?
Several reasons: stats only count plays of 30 seconds or more, private sessions may not be tracked, offline plays might not sync, and Wrapped cuts off at October 31. Also, third-party sites only see data from when you connect them, so they miss earlier history.
Is it safe to give third-party sites my Spotify data?
Legitimate sites use Spotify’s official API and only ask for read access to your profile and listening history. Never share your password. Check the site’s privacy policy and revoke access from your Spotify account settings if you’re unsure.
How do I see my all-time most played songs?
Spotify doesn’t show all-time stats in the app. You need to request your personal data (StreamingHistory.json) and import it into a service like Stats.fm, or use Last.fm from now on and wait for it to accumulate data.
Does Spotify Wrapped include December listening?
No. Wrapped covers January 1 through October 31 of the current year. Your November and December plays will appear in the next year’s Wrapped.
