Spotify Listening Statistics: How to See Yours

Spotify’s listening statistics feature shows you your most-played artists, songs, and genres over a specific period, plus your total listening time. You can view it in the app’s Wrapped annual review, or in real-time through the “Your Library” and artist pages. Here’s how to find and understand every type of stat Spotify offers.

Formula

This calculator works out your average pace and speed from a run or ride. The formulas are:

  • Pace = Finish time (minutes) ÷ Distance (km), in minutes per kilometer.
  • Speed = Distance (km) ÷ (Finish time (minutes) ÷ 60), in kilometers per hour.

Variables: t = finish time in minutes, d = distance in kilometers. For miles, convert distance to km first (1 mile = 1.60934 km).

Worked Example

Using the default values: t = 50 minutes, d = 10 km.

  • Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.0 min/km
  • Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.0 km/h

So a 50-minute, 10 km run gives an average pace of 5:00 per kilometer and an average speed of 12 km/h.

How Spotify’s Listening Stats Work

Spotify tracks every stream you play (with a few exceptions like offline downloads when you’re not connected). The data is used for two main features:

  • Spotify Wrapped – an annual summary released each December, covering your top songs, artists, genres, and total minutes listened from January 1 to October 31.
  • Real-time stats – available year-round in the app’s “Your Library” > “Artists” and “Songs” sections, which show your most-played items over the last month, 6 months, and all time.

The stats are based on your listening history, but Spotify doesn’t count every single play equally. For example, a song you play on repeat for 10 hours will count, but Spotify’s algorithm may weight recent plays more heavily in some views. The exact weighting isn’t public.

How to See Your Spotify Stats (Step-by-Step)

  1. Open the Spotify app (mobile or desktop).
  2. Tap “Your Library” at the bottom (mobile) or the left sidebar (desktop).
  3. Tap “Artists” or “Songs” – you’ll see a list sorted by your most played, with a time filter (e.g., “Last 6 months”).
  4. For Wrapped, go to the search tab and type “Wrapped” during the release window (usually late November to early December). Or visit spotify.com/wrapped on a browser.
  5. For a more detailed breakdown, use third-party sites like Stats.fm or Spotify Pie – they require you to request your data from Spotify (see below).

Note: The “Your Library” views only show your top 50 artists and top 50 songs per time period. If you want a full list, you need to request your data.

How to Get Your Complete Listening Data

Spotify lets you download your entire account data, including every stream you’ve ever made. Here’s how:

  1. Go to spotify.com/account and log in.
  2. Click “Privacy settings” (under “Privacy”).
  3. Scroll down to “Download your data” and click “Request”.
  4. Spotify will email you when the file is ready (can take up to 30 days).
  5. The file contains a JSON file with your streaming history (song, artist, timestamp, ms played).

You can then analyze it with a spreadsheet or import it into third-party tools that visualize your stats.

Common Problems and Misconceptions

  • “My Wrapped is wrong” – Wrapped only covers Jan 1 to Oct 31, so your November listening isn’t included. Also, if you share an account, it aggregates everyone’s listening.
  • “Why doesn’t my top artist match my actual listening?” – Spotify’s algorithm may exclude certain plays (like if you fall asleep and let a playlist run all night) to avoid skewing results. It also weights recent plays more in some views.
  • “Can I see stats for a specific date range?” – Not in the app. Only the preset periods (last month, 6 months, all time) are available. Third-party tools can give you custom ranges if you download your data.
  • “Do offline plays count?” – Yes, they count once you’re back online and sync. If you never reconnect, they may not appear.

Third-Party Spotify Stat Tools

Many people use external sites to get more detailed stats than the app offers. These are the most popular:

  • Stats.fm (formerly Spotistats) – shows your top songs, artists, genres, and listening time with detailed charts. Free tier and paid premium.
  • Spotify Pie – a free website that visualizes your top genres as a pie chart. It uses your public profile data (no login required).
  • Obscurify – compares your taste to others, shows how “obscure” your music is.

These tools are not affiliated with Spotify. They typically work by either requesting your data (Stats.fm) or by scraping your public profile (Spotify Pie). Be cautious about granting any third-party app access to your Spotify account – only use well-known tools.

Spotify Wrapped vs. Real-Time Stats

Wrapped is the flashy annual event, but it’s not the only way to see your stats. The in-app “Your Library” gives you a live view that updates as you listen. Wrapped is more of a shareable summary with fun graphics and playlists. Real-time stats are more useful if you want to track your listening throughout the year.

One key difference: Wrapped includes your total minutes listened and top genres, which the in-app views don’t show. The in-app views only show top artists and songs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I see my Spotify stats on mobile?

Open the Spotify app, go to “Your Library” > “Artists” or “Songs”. You’ll see your top items with a filter for “Last month”, “Last 6 months”, and “All time”. There’s no dedicated “stats” button.

Why doesn’t my Spotify Wrapped show up?

Wrapped is only available from late November to early January. If you’re outside that window, you can’t access it. Also, you need to have listened to at least a few songs during the year – accounts with no listening history won’t get a Wrapped.

Can I see my Spotify stats without Wrapped?

Yes, the “Your Library” section shows your top artists and songs year-round. For more detailed stats like genres and listening time, you can use third-party tools or download your account data.

Does Spotify count my listening in private mode?

No. If you use “Private Session” (available on mobile), your listening is not saved to your history and won’t affect your stats. It’s designed for that purpose.

How do I see my Spotify stats for a specific month?

You can’t in the app. Spotify only offers preset periods. If you download your data, you can filter by month in a spreadsheet or use a third-party tool that supports custom date ranges.

Why is my top artist on Spotify not my most played?

Spotify’s algorithm may exclude plays from certain sources (like radio) or weight recent plays more heavily. Also, if you play a song for less than 30 seconds, it may not count as a full play.
