Skate Cross Play, Add Friends & Cross Saves Guide

Skate (the 2025 reboot) supports cross-play and cross-saves, but only if you link your platform account to an EA account. You can play with friends on other consoles and PCs, and carry your progress between platforms, but the setup requires a few specific steps.

What Cross-Play and Cross-Saves Actually Cover

Cross-play means you can skate in the same online session with players on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Cross-saves let you continue your career, custom skater, and board collection on a different platform. Both features are tied to your EA account, not your platform account. That means you must log into the same EA account on every device you use. If you skip that step, your progress stays locked to the platform where you started.

How to Enable Cross-Play

Cross-play is on by default in Skate. If you want to check or change it, go to the settings menu and look for the “Online or “Cross-Play tab. You can toggle it off if you prefer to play only with people on your own platform. When cross-play is on, you will see players from all supported platforms in the social hub and in matchmade events.

How to Add Friends Across Platforms

Adding friends works through the in-game social menu, not your console friend list. To add someone on a different platform:

  • Open the social menu from the main hub.
  • Select “Add Friendâ€ and enter their EA username (not their PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam name).
  • Send the request. They will get a notification in-game.
  • Once they accept, they appear in your friends list and you can invite them to your session.

If you already know someone’s platform gamertag, you can search by that too, but the game will still link it to their EA account. The easiest way is to ask for their EA username directly.

Setting Up Cross-Saves

Cross-saves require the same EA account on every platform. Here is the process:

  1. Create or log into an EA account on your first platform.
  2. Play the game and let it save your progress to the cloud.
  3. On your second platform, install Skate and launch it.
  4. When prompted, log into the same EA account instead of creating a new one.
  5. The game will ask if you want to load your existing save or start fresh. Choose “Load to bring your progress over.

You can switch back and forth freely after that, as long as you use the same EA account. Your save data syncs automatically when you are online.

Common Problems and Fixes

The most frequent issue is seeing a different character or level on a new platform. That usually means you accidentally created a new EA account during setup. Check which EA account is linked to each platform in the game’s settings or on the EA website. If they do not match, you will need to unlink one and link the correct one.

Another common problem is friends not appearing in the list even after they accept your request. Restart the game and make sure both of you are online. If it still fails, check that cross-play is enabled on both sides. Occasionally, platform privacy settings can block friend requests, so ask your friend to check their platform’s privacy options.

Cross-Save Limitations You Should Know

Not everything transfers. Your in-game currency balance is tied to the platform where you bought it. If you buy a cosmetic pack on PlayStation, it will not appear on your Xbox save. Also, some platform-exclusive items (like a special board or outfit) stay exclusive to that platform. Your level, quest progress, custom skater, and board collection do carry over.

There is no manual save upload or download. The game handles cloud saves automatically when you are online. If you play offline on one platform, that progress will sync the next time you connect.

Does Cross-Save Work Between PC and Console?

Yes. PC (Steam or Epic Games Store), PlayStation, and Xbox all share the same cross-save system. The only requirement is that you use the same EA account. So you can start on PC and continue on your couch with a console, or the other way around. The process is identical to switching between two consoles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add friends by their PlayStation or Xbox gamertag?

Yes, you can search by gamertag in the add-friend menu, but the game will match it to the EA account linked to that gamertag. If your friend has not linked their platform account to an EA account, they will not appear in the search.

Do I need an EA account to play Skate online?

Yes. An EA account is required for online play, cross-play, and cross-saves. You can play the single-player tutorial without one, but you will need to log in to access the full game.

Will my progress sync automatically between platforms?

Yes, as long as you are online and using the same EA account. The game syncs your save when you launch it and periodically while you play. There is no manual sync button.

Can I use the same custom skater on all platforms?

Yes, your custom skater is part of your save data and will carry over through cross-saves. Any changes you make on one platform appear on the others after the sync.

What happens if I unlink my platform from my EA account?

Your save data stays on the EA account, but you will not be able to access it from that platform until you link it again. You can relink the same platform account later, and your progress will return.

Is cross-play available in all game modes?

Most online modes support cross-play, including the social hub and matchmade events. Some limited-time modes or platform-specific events may restrict matchmaking, but the core game is fully cross-play.
