Peacock TV Keyboard Shortcuts (Windows & Mac)

Peacock TV’s web player supports a small but useful set of keyboard shortcuts for controlling playback without reaching for the mouse. You can press Space or K to play/pause, M to mute, and the arrow keys to seek or adjust volume. This article covers every shortcut that works on the current Peacock web player, how to use them, and what to do when they don’t respond.

Full List of Peacock Keyboard Shortcuts

These shortcuts work in the Peacock web player on Windows, Mac, and Linux when the video player has focus (click the video once before pressing keys). They are the same ones used by YouTube and Netflix, so they’ll feel familiar.

  • Space or K – Play or pause
  • M – Mute or unmute
  • ↑ / ↓ – Volume up / down (by 5% each press)
  • / → – Seek backward / forward by 10 seconds
  • J – Rewind 10 seconds
  • L – Fast-forward 10 seconds
  • F – Toggle fullscreen
  • Home or 0 – Jump to the beginning of the video
  • End – Jump to the end (or the last 10 seconds)

There is no shortcut for captions, playback speed, or skipping the intro. Those actions require the on-screen controls.

How to Enable and Use Them

Peacock’s shortcuts are always on in the web player; there is no settings toggle. To use them:

  1. Open peacocktv.com in a desktop browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari).
  2. Start any movie or show.
  3. Click once on the video area so the player has focus.
  4. Press the shortcut key. The action happens immediately.

If you’re typing in a search box or a comment field, the shortcuts won’t fire—the page assumes you’re typing text. Click back on the video to regain control.

Why Some Shortcuts Don’t Work (Common Fixes)

Users frequently report that arrow keys or Space do nothing. The most common cause is that the video player doesn’t have focus—especially after clicking a button or scrolling. Click the video once and try again.

Another issue: the M key might not mute if your cursor is over a control that pops up. Move the mouse away from the player chrome and press M again.

If shortcuts fail entirely, try these steps:

  • Refresh the page and start the video over.
  • Update your browser to the latest version.
  • Disable browser extensions that block scripts or remap keys (like Vimium or Tampermonkey).
  • Try a different browser. Peacock works best in Chrome and Edge.

Peacock vs. Netflix and YouTube Shortcuts

Peacock’s shortcuts are nearly identical to Netflix’s, with a few differences. Netflix uses Space, K, M, and arrows the same way, but also has Shift+/→ for faster seeking. YouTube adds +/– for speed and I for mini-player. Peacock omits those, so if you’re used to YouTube’s extended set, you’ll need to use the on-screen controls for speed changes.

One notable difference: Peacock’s Home key jumps to the very start, while Netflix’s Home key does nothing. Also, Peacock does not support the Page Up/Page Down keys that some players use for chapter jumps.

Keyboard Shortcuts on Smart TVs and Streaming Devices

Peacock apps on smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, and game consoles do not support keyboard shortcuts. They rely on the remote’s dedicated buttons: play/pause, fast-forward, rewind, and mute. Some universal remotes with keyboard functionality (like the Roku remote with a headphone jack) still don’t map to Peacock’s web shortcuts—those only exist in the browser version.

If you’re using a TV and want keyboard control, you can cast or mirror your browser tab to the TV, but the shortcuts will only work while the browser tab is active.

Accessibility and Alternative Control Methods

For users who can’t use a keyboard, Peacock’s web player offers full mouse control: click the settings gear for captions, speed, and quality. On the video, you can also use the on-screen buttons for play/pause, skip forward/back 10 seconds, and volume.

Screen reader users can navigate the player controls with standard Tab and Enter keys. The keyboard shortcuts above are not announced by screen readers, but they do work when the video has focus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn’t the spacebar work on Peacock?

Spacebar only works when the video player has focus. If you’ve clicked anywhere else on the page—like a button or the search bar—the spacebar will scroll the page instead. Click the video once, then press Space.

Can I change the keyboard shortcuts on Peacock?

No. Peacock does not offer a way to remap or customize shortcuts. They are fixed in the web player. Browser extensions like “custom shortcuts for YouTube” do not work on Peacock because the site doesn’t expose the same event hooks.

Does Peacock have a shortcut for subtitles?

No. There is no keyboard shortcut to toggle captions. You must click the CC icon in the player controls or use the settings gear.

Why do the arrow keys seek instead of changing volume?

Left/right arrows always seek by 10 seconds. Up/down arrows always change volume. This is by design and matches Netflix. If you want to seek by a different amount, you’ll need to use the on-screen progress bar.

Do these shortcuts work on the Peacock mobile app?

No. The mobile apps (iOS and Android) have no keyboard shortcuts. They use touch gestures: tap to pause, swipe to seek, and pinch to zoom (on iPad).

Is there a shortcut to skip the intro?

No. Peacock doesn’t have a dedicated skip-intro button on any platform. You can press L or the right arrow twice to jump 20 seconds, which is the common workaround.
