Palworld Pals That Change Attack Element

In Palworld, a handful of Pals can change their attack element through Partner Skills or specific actions, though the mechanic is limited and often misunderstood. This article explains which Pals have element-changing abilities, how they work, and what it means for your team.

Formula

The calculator above computes average pace and speed from a finish time and distance. The formulas are:

  • Pace (min/km) = Finish time (minutes) ÷ Distance (km)
  • Speed (km/h) = Distance (km) ÷ (Finish time (minutes) ÷ 60)

Where t is the finish time in minutes, and d is the distance in kilometers. Pace tells you how many minutes it takes to cover one kilometer; speed tells you how many kilometers you cover in one hour.

Worked Example

Using the default values: finish time = 50 minutes, distance = 10 km.

  1. Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.00 min/km
  2. Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h

So the average pace is 5 minutes per kilometer, and the average speed is 12 kilometers per hour.

Why Element Changing Matters

Elemental advantages in Palworld follow a rock-paper-scissors system: Fire beats Grass, Grass beats Water, Water beats Fire, and so on. A Pal that can change its attack element can exploit enemy weaknesses that would otherwise be unavailable to its base type. This is especially valuable in tower bosses, raid bosses, and PvP, where a single elemental mismatch can cost you the fight.

Pals with Element-Changing Partner Skills

As of the current version, only a few Pals can actively change the element of their attacks. The most notable is Wixen, whose Partner Skill “Wixen’s Flame boosts Fire attacks, but it does not change its own element. The true element-changers are:

  • Dazzi – Partner Skill “Dazzi’s Shockâ€ allows it to change its attacks to Electric type when mounted or following.
  • Maraith – “Maraith’s Curseâ€ changes its attacks to Dark type while active.
  • Lyleen – “Lyleen’s Harvestâ€ can change its attacks to Grass type, but only during the day.

These Pals are the only ones that have a built-in mechanic that alters the element of their basic attacks. Other Pals may have skills that boost a specific element but do not change the element itself.

How the Element Change Works

For Pals like Dazzi, Maraith, and Lyleen, the element change is automatic when their Partner Skill is active. The skill is usually toggled by pressing the corresponding button (default: F on PC, or the mount/interact button on consoles). Once active, the Pal’s basic attack (the one that uses no skill) will deal the new element’s damage. However, their active skills (the ones you assign via the Pal Box) remain their original element. For example, if you give Dazzi a Water-type skill, it will still deal Water damage even when its basic attack is Electric.

Choosing the Right Element-Changer

When picking an element-changer, consider the following:

  • Base stats – A Pal with low Attack won’t benefit much from an element change.
  • Partner Skill uptime – Some skills have cooldowns or only work during certain times of day (Lyleen only during day).
  • Team synergy – Pair an element-changer with Pals that have skills of the same element to maximize the “Same Type Attack Bonusâ€ (STAB) if that mechanic exists in your version.

Common Misconceptions

Many players believe that any Pal can change its element by using a skill of a different type. That is false – a Pal’s basic attack remains its base element unless a Partner Skill specifically changes it. Also, some Pals like Jolthog or Foxparks have skills that boost their own element, but they do not change it. Always read the Partner Skill description carefully.

Limitations and Strategy

Element-changing Pals are rare, so they are often used in specific builds. The change only affects the basic attack, not the active skills, which limits its usefulness in high-level fights where you rely on strong active skills. However, in early game, a Dazzi with an Electric basic attack can shred Water-type Pals without needing a dedicated Electric skill. Use them as a flexible counter to common enemy types in the area you are exploring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can any Pal change its attack element? No, only a few Pals with specific Partner Skills can. As of now, Dazzi, Maraith, and Lyleen are the only ones that can change their basic attack element.

Does the element change affect active skills? No, active skills keep their original element. Only the Pal’s basic attack (the one without a skill assigned) changes.

How do I activate the element change? You need to activate the Partner Skill by pressing the interact button (usually F on PC, or the mount button on consoles). The skill will remain active until you toggle it off or the Pal is knocked out.

Is Lyleen’s day-only restriction a big deal? It can be, because night battles will not benefit from the Grass change. Plan your exploration or boss fights during the day if you rely on Lyleen’s change.

Can I breed a Pal with an element-changing skill? Yes, the Partner Skill is tied to the Pal species, so breeding a Dazzi, Maraith, or Lyleen will produce a Pal with the same skill.

Are there any Pals that change the element of their active skills? No, not in the current version. The mechanic is limited to basic attacks only.
