Messenger View Archived Messages: How to Find Them

Yes, you can view archived messages in Facebook Messenger, but only on the mobile app—the feature is not available on the desktop website. Archiving hides a conversation from your main inbox without deleting it, and you can retrieve it at any time by searching for the person or scrolling through your archived list. This article explains exactly where to find archived messages on both iOS and Android, how to archive and unarchive, and what happens to them.

Formula

The calculator works out your average pace and speed for a given finish time and distance. The pace is the time it takes to cover one unit of distance, and the speed is the distance covered per hour.

Pace (min/km) = Finish time (min) ÷ Distance (km)

Speed (km/h) = Distance (km) ÷ (Finish time (min) ÷ 60)

Where:

  • Finish time – total time taken, in minutes.
  • Distance – total distance covered, in kilometers.
  • Pace – minutes per kilometer (min/km).
  • Speed – kilometers per hour (km/h).

Worked Example

Using the default values: finish time = 50 minutes, distance = 10 km.

  1. Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.00 min/km
  2. Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h

The calculator shows an average pace of 5.00 min/km and an average speed of 12.00 km/h.

When to Use This Calculator

Use it whenever you have a race time or a training run time and want to know your average pace or speed. Runners often use pace to plan race splits, while cyclists and walkers may prefer speed. You can also reverse it: if you know your target pace and distance, you can estimate a finish time by multiplying pace by distance.

How to Read the Result

A lower pace (e.g., 4:30 min/km) means faster running than a higher pace (e.g., 6:00 min/km). Speed is the opposite: higher km/h means faster. The two numbers are just different ways of expressing the same performance. For example, 5.00 min/km is exactly the same as 12.00 km/h.

Common Mistakes

  • Mixing units – If you enter distance in miles, the pace will be in min/mile, not min/km. Convert miles to kilometers (1 mile = 1.60934 km) before using this calculator.
  • Using seconds instead of minutes – Enter time in minutes (e.g., 50 for 50 minutes). If you have 1:23:45, convert to 83.75 minutes.
  • Rounding too early – Keep full precision until the final step to avoid small errors.

Limits of the Formula

This is a simple average calculation. It does not account for elevation gain, terrain, stops, or variations in pace during the run. It gives the average pace over the whole distance, not your speed at any particular moment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find archived messages in Messenger?

Open the Messenger app, tap your profile picture in the top-left corner, then tap “Archived chats. You’ll see a list of all conversations you’ve archived. Tap any conversation to open it and read the messages.

Can I view archived messages on the Facebook website?

No, the desktop version of Facebook Messenger does not have an “Archived chats section. You can only access archived messages through the mobile app. On the website, you can still search for a person’s name, and the conversation will appear in search results even if it’s archived.

Does archiving delete the messages?

No, archiving only hides the conversation from your main inbox. The messages are not deleted. You can unarchive the conversation at any time, and it will return to your regular chat list.

How do I unarchive a conversation?

In the “Archived chats list, tap the conversation you want to restore. It will open, and then you can send a new message or simply go back—the conversation will be moved back to your main inbox automatically. Alternatively, you can long-press (or swipe) the conversation in the archived list and select “Unarchive.

Will the other person know if I archive the chat?

No, archiving is completely private. The other person will not receive any notification, and they will still see the conversation in their own inbox. Archiving only affects your view.

What if I can’t find an archived conversation?

If you don’t see it in the “Archived chats list, try searching for the person’s name in the main search bar. If that doesn’t work, check if you have accidentally deleted the conversation instead of archiving. Deleted messages are not recoverable through the app.
