Mass Effect save transfers let you carry your Shepard, their decisions, and their relationships across the trilogy, and the game tracks dozens of choices. The most important carried elements are your Shepard’s appearance, class, level, and reputation, plus every major story decision from the previous game, which alters dialogue, missions, and even who lives or dies in later installments.
Formula
The calculator above computes your average pace and speed for a run or ride. Pace is the time it takes to cover one kilometer, and speed is the distance covered per hour. The formulas are:
- Pace (min/km) = Finish time (minutes) ÷ Distance (km)
- Speed (km/h) = Distance (km) ÷ (Finish time (minutes) ÷ 60)
Variables: t = finish time in minutes, d = distance in kilometers. The pace result is shown in minutes per kilometer (min/km), and speed in kilometers per hour (km/h).
Worked Example
Using the default values from the calculator: you finish a 10 km run in 50 minutes.
- Pace = 50 min ÷ 10 km = 5.0 min/km
- Speed = 10 km ÷ (50 min ÷ 60) = 10 km ÷ 0.8333 h = 12.0 km/h
So your average pace is 5 minutes per kilometer, and your average speed is 12 kilometers per hour. The calculator rounds both to two decimal places.
When to Use This Calculator
Use this calculator when you want to know your training pace for a specific distance, or when you need to convert between pace and speed. Runners often track pace in minutes per kilometer (or mile), while cyclists and drivers use speed in km/h or mph. If you know your finish time and distance, this tool gives you both numbers instantly.
How to Read the Result
A lower pace (e.g., 4:30 min/km) means you are faster than a higher pace (e.g., 6:00 min/km). Speed works the opposite way: higher speed means faster. For example, a pace of 5:00 min/km equals 12 km/h. If you run on a treadmill that shows speed in km/h, you can use this calculator to find the equivalent pace to set your training.
Common Mistakes and Unit Mix-ups
- Mixing minutes and seconds: If your finish time is 1:30:00 (1 hour 30 minutes), convert to total minutes first (90 minutes) before using the formula.
- Using miles instead of kilometers: The calculator expects kilometers. If your distance is in miles, multiply by 1.60934 to get kilometers, or use a separate miles version.
- Rounding too early: Keep at least two decimal places during intermediate steps to avoid a slightly off final pace.
Limitations of the Formula
This formula gives your average pace and speed over the whole distance. It does not account for hills, stops, or uneven effort. Your actual instantaneous pace will vary throughout the run. The formula also assumes you finish without any pauses; if you stop for a traffic light, your moving pace will be faster than your elapsed pace.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert pace to speed?
Divide 60 by your pace in minutes per kilometer. For example, a 5:00 min/km pace gives 60 ÷ 5 = 12 km/h. If your pace is in minutes per mile, divide 60 by that number to get miles per hour.
What is a good running pace for a beginner?
It varies by age, fitness, and gender. A common recreational pace is around 6:00 to 7:00 min/km (about 8.5 to 10 km/h). Beginners often start slower and gradually speed up as endurance improves. There is no single “good” pace; it depends on your goals.
Should I use pace or speed on my watch?
Runners typically use pace (min/km) because it directly tells you how fast you are covering ground. Cyclists and drivers use speed (km/h). Choose whichever feels more intuitive. Many GPS watches let you display both.
Does the calculator work for walking?
Yes, it works for any activity where you know time and distance. A typical walking pace is 10-12 min/km (5-6 km/h). Just enter your walking time and distance.
How do I convert min/km to min/mile?
Multiply the pace in min/km by 1.60934. For example, 5:00 min/km × 1.60934 = 8:03 min/mile. Conversely, divide a min/mile pace by 1.60934 to get min/km.
