Lineage Piece Yuji Melee: Requirements & Unlock Steps

This guide explains how to unlock and use the Yuji melee fighting style in Lineage Piece, covering the exact requirements, the step-by-step unlock process, and how the fighting style works in combat. You’ll learn what stats you need, where to go, and what to do once you have it equipped.

Background: What Is the Yuji Melee?

The Yuji melee is a fighting style in Lineage Piece inspired by Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen. It focuses on fast, close-range punches and kicks, with a special move that deals bonus damage based on your Strength stat. Unlike weapon-based styles, it leaves your hands free, which pairs well with certain accessories or devil fruits that boost physical damage. The style is popular for PvP because of its quick combo potential and low cooldown times, though it lacks ranged options entirely.

Requirements Before You Start

Before you can unlock the Yuji melee, you must meet three conditions:

  • Level 500 or higher – the quest NPC will not talk to you below this level.
  • At least 100,000 Beli – the unlock costs this exact amount; you keep the money after purchase.
  • No other fighting style equipped – you must unequip your current style from the menu before starting the quest.

Your race and devil fruit do not matter for the unlock, but having a fruit that boosts melee damage (like a physical-type fruit) will make the style stronger later.

Unlock Steps: The Full Quest Line

Follow these steps in order. If you skip ahead, the NPC will ignore you.

  1. Travel to the Second Sea and go to the Frozen Village (the snowy area with the large ice castle).
  2. Find the NPC named Yuji standing near the castle entrance. Talk to him and select “I want to learn your fighting style.”
  3. He will ask you to defeat 50 Ice Golems (level 480-520) that spawn around the village. They drop no special items, so just kill them with any attack.
  4. Return to Yuji after defeating all 50. He will then ask for 10 Ice Shards, which drop from the same golems at a 20% rate. You may need to kill extra golems if you were unlucky.
  5. Hand over the shards, then pay the 100,000 Beli fee. Yuji will teach you the style immediately.
  6. Open your inventory and equip the Yuji Melee from the fighting style tab. It appears as a red fist icon.

If you die during the quest, your kill count resets to zero. Use a respawn point near the village to minimize travel time.

How the Fighting Style Works in Combat

Once equipped, the Yuji melee replaces your basic attack with a three-hit punch combo. The third hit has a small knockback effect. Your special move, Divine Punch, is a charged attack that deals 2.5x your Strength stat as damage. It takes 2 seconds to charge, and you can move while charging. The move has a 8-second cooldown, so it is not spammable.

There is also a passive effect: every 10th punch you land restores 5% of your max HP. This makes the style surprisingly sustainable in long fights, but it does not work on NPCs that are more than 10 levels above you.

How to Choose: Yuji Melee vs. Other Styles

Compare the Yuji melee to these common alternatives before you spend Beli:

  • Combat (basic) – free, but no special moves and low damage. Good for early game only.
  • Black Leg – faster kicks, but lower single-hit damage. Better for hit-and-run tactics.
  • Fishman Karate – has a ranged water wave, but requires a fishman race to unlock. Yuji works for any race.
  • Rokushiki – adds a teleport-dash move, but has a longer cooldown on its main attack. Yuji is more consistent.

Choose Yuji if you want a pure melee style with a strong burst move and no reliance on weapons. If you prefer mobility or range, pick something else.

Common Mistakes and Troubleshooting

Players often fail this quest due to a few avoidable errors:

  • Not unequipping your current style – the NPC will say “You already have a style” and refuse the quest. Go to the menu > fighting style > unequip.
  • Killing the wrong golems – only the Ice Golems in the Frozen Village count. Other ice monsters (like Frost Wolves) do not.
  • Dying mid-quest – your kill counter resets. Stay close to the village and avoid fighting multiple golems at once.
  • Not having enough Beli – the game does not warn you before the final step. Check your money first.

If the NPC still won’t talk to you after meeting all requirements, try leaving the server and rejoining. This resets the NPC’s dialogue state.

Costs and Time Investment

The total cost is exactly 100,000 Beli, plus the time to kill 50 golems (and possibly extra for shards). On average, each golem takes about 15 seconds to kill with a decent weapon, so the whole quest takes roughly 30-40 minutes. If you are level 500, the golems are slightly below your level, so you will not get much XP, but you will earn about 2,000 Beli per golem, which offsets some of the cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I unlock Yuji melee in the First Sea?

No. The Frozen Village and the NPC Yuji only exist in the Second Sea. You must reach level 500 and take the boat to the Second Sea first.

Does the Yuji melee work with any devil fruit?

Yes, it works with all fruits. However, if your fruit has a transformation that changes your basic attack (like a zoan), the Yuji punches may be overridden. For best results, use a fruit that does not alter your melee moves.

Is the Yuji melee better than a sword?

It depends on your build. Swords have longer reach and some have special moves, but they require a weapon slot. Yuji melee frees that slot for an accessory, which can boost your stats more. For pure damage per second, Yuji is competitive but not the highest.

Can I trade the Yuji melee to another player?

No. Fighting styles are bound to your character once learned. You cannot sell, trade, or drop them.

What happens if I reset my stats after unlocking Yuji?

You keep the fighting style, but your damage will drop if you reset Strength. The style’s special move scales with Strength, so keep at least 200 points in it to make the style viable.

Does the Yuji melee have any hidden requirements?

No hidden requirements. The level, Beli, and unequip condition are the only checks. Some older guides mention a “reputation” requirement, but that was removed in a previous update.
