Jensen Ackles Vought Rising Wrap Message
Yes, Jensen Ackles shared a heartfelt message as filming wrapped on Vought Rising, the upcoming The Boys prequel series. In a social media post, he thanked the cast and crew and reflected on the emotional final day of production, calling the experience one of the most rewarding of his career.
Background: The Announcement and Casting
Vought Rising was announced in July 2024 as a prequel to The Boys, set in the 1950s. It follows the origins of Vought International and the first superhero team, led by Soldier Boy (played by Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (played by Aya Cash). The series is created by Eric Kripke, who also created The Boys and previously worked with Ackles on Supernatural. The show is expected to explore how Vought became the corrupt corporation seen in the main series, and how Compound V was first weaponized.
The Wrap Message: What He Said
Ackles took to Instagram on March 14, 2025, to share a photo of a clapperboard with the words “That’s a wrap and a long caption. He wrote that finishing the final season of Supernatural had been emotional, but that wrapping Vought Rising “hit differently. He thanked the cast, crew, and showrunner Eric Kripke for their dedication, and singled out Aya Cash as a “force of nature. He also expressed gratitude to the fans for their enthusiasm, saying the prequel was made with love for the Boys universe. The post received over a million likes within hours.
Filming Details and Production Timeline
Principal photography began in late 2024 in Toronto, Canada, where the main series is also filmed. The production took about five months, with several location shoots in historic districts to recreate the 1950s aesthetic. The series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in late 2025, though no exact date has been announced. The show has been described as a “horror-tinged origin story, with Kripke stating it will be darker and more grounded than the main series.
What the Prequel Means for The Boys Universe
Fans of The Boys will see how Vought evolved from a small company into the monopoly that controls superheroes. The show will also explore the early days of Compound V, the drug that gives Supes their powers, and how it was tested on unsuspecting people. Soldier Boy, who was introduced in Season 3 as a traumatized, violent hero, will be shown in his prime, before his betrayal by Vought. This backstory is expected to deepen the mythology of the main series and may set up future storylines.
Cast and Crew Reactions
Several cast members also shared their own wrap posts. Aya Cash posted a behind-the-scenes photo with Ackles, calling him “the best partner in crime. Eric Kripke tweeted a photo of the two leads in costume, writing, “This is the show I’ve always wanted to make. I can’t wait for you to see it. The production designer shared concept art of the 1950s Vought tower, which has a retro-futuristic look. The response from the Boys fandom has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing excitement on social media.
How to Watch and What to Expect
Vought Rising will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, like the rest of the Boys franchise. It is expected to be a limited series, possibly one or two seasons, focusing on the origins of Vought. The tone will be similar to The Boys—satirical, violent, and darkly funny—but with a 1950s noir twist. If you’re new to the franchise, it’s recommended to watch The Boys first, as the prequel will reference events and characters from the main series.
Common Misconceptions
One common mistake is thinking Vought Rising is a spin-off of Gen V, the college-set series. It is actually a direct prequel to The Boys, set decades before the main events. Another misconception is that Soldier Boy will be the main character throughout; while he is central, the show is an ensemble piece, focusing on the formation of the first superhero team. Also, despite the 1950s setting, the show will not shy away from modern social commentary, just like the original series.
