How to Get Crushed Bone in Fisch
Crushed Bone is a crafting material in Fisch used to make bait and other items. You get it by using a Hammer on a Fossil. This guide covers exactly where to find Fossils, how to crush them, and what to do when things go wrong.
What You’ll Need
- A Hammer (buyable from any general store for 250C$)
- A Fossil (found by digging on any island with a shovel)
- A Shovel (buyable from the same store for 120C$)
- Patience – Fossils are rare drops from digging
Step-by-Step
- Buy a Shovel and a Hammer. Go to any island with a general store (e.g., Moosewood, Roslit Bay, or Terrapin Island). Open the shop and buy both tools. You cannot crush Fossils without a Hammer, and you cannot find Fossils without a Shovel.
- Equip your Shovel. Open your inventory (Tab on PC, or the backpack icon on mobile) and select the Shovel. You will see a white circle on the ground where you can dig.
- Dig on land. Walk to a grassy or sandy area on any island. Press and hold the dig button (left click on PC, tap on mobile). Each dig has a chance to produce a Fossil, but most digs give coins or nothing.
- Keep digging until you get a Fossil. Fossils look like a brown bone with a glowing yellow outline. They are rare – expect to dig 20–50 times before one appears. Digging near the water’s edge or on beaches does not increase the odds.
- Equip your Hammer. Once you have a Fossil in your inventory, open your inventory again and select the Hammer.
- Use the Hammer on the Fossil. With the Hammer equipped, look at the Fossil in your inventory (or on the ground if you dropped it) and click the use button. The game will ask if you want to crush it. Confirm, and you will receive 1 Crushed Bone.
- Collect your Crushed Bone. It appears in your inventory automatically. You can use it to craft bait or sell it for 15C$.
Common Mistakes
- Forgetting to equip the Hammer. Many players try to crush a Fossil while holding the Shovel. You must switch to the Hammer first.
- Digging in the wrong place. Fossils only drop from digging on land. Digging in the water or on docks gives nothing.
- Selling Fossils by accident. Fossils sell for 90C$ at the shop, but you need them for Crushed Bone. Check your inventory before selling.
- Not checking your inventory after digging. Fossils sometimes appear without a sound cue. Open your inventory after every few digs.
Tips
- Dig in a straight line. Walk forward while digging to cover more ground. You can hold the dig button and move at the same time.
- Use a fast-digging spot. Some players report that digging on the beach at Moosewood is faster because the ground is flat and you can run in a loop.
- Crush multiple Fossils at once. If you have several Fossils, equip the Hammer and crush them one by one. You do not need to re-equip between each one.
- Keep a Hammer in your hotbar. Put the Hammer in a hotbar slot (1-5 on PC) so you can switch to it instantly when you get a Fossil.
Troubleshooting
I dug 100 times and got no Fossil. This is normal. Fossils have a roughly 5% drop rate, so 100 digs should give about 5, but luck varies. Keep digging – it will happen.
I have a Fossil but the Hammer won’t crush it. Make sure the Fossil is in your inventory, not on the ground. If it is on the ground, pick it up first. Also, make sure you are not in a menu – close any shop or crafting window.
The game says I need a Hammer, but I have one. Check that the Hammer is not broken. Hammers have durability and break after ~50 uses. Buy a new one from the store.
I crushed a Fossil and got nothing. This can happen if your inventory is full. Check your inventory for Crushed Bone – it may have gone to a different slot. If not, sell something and try again.
I lost my Fossil when I died. If you die with a Fossil, you drop it. You can go back to where you died to pick it up, but it despawns after a few minutes. To avoid this, crush Fossils as soon as you get them.
