The Intel Pentium Silver series (N5000, N5030, J5005, J5040, and similar) always has four physical cores and four threads. There are no dual-core or six-core Pentium Silver models; every chip in this family uses the same 4-core, 4-thread layout, with differences coming from clock speed, cache, and graphics.
Formula
The calculator works out your average pace and speed for a run, walk, or cycle. You enter the finish time (in minutes) and the distance (in kilometers). The calculator then returns your average pace in minutes per kilometer and your average speed in kilometers per hour.
Pace is the time it takes to cover one kilometer, calculated as:
Pace (min/km) = Total Time (min) ÷ Distance (km)
Speed is the distance covered in one hour, calculated as:
Speed (km/h) = Distance (km) ÷ (Total Time (min) ÷ 60)
Variables:
- t = total time in minutes (e.g., 50 minutes)
- d = distance in kilometers (e.g., 10 km)
- Pace = minutes per kilometer (min/km)
- Speed = kilometers per hour (km/h)
Worked Example
Using the default values: you finish a 10 km run in 50 minutes.
- Pace = 50 ÷ 10 = 5.0 min/km
- Speed = 10 ÷ (50 ÷ 60) = 10 ÷ 0.8333 = 12.0 km/h
The calculator returns a pace of 5.00 min/km and a speed of 12.00 km/h.
When to Use This Calculator
Use this tool when you want to know your average pace for a training run, compare your speed across different distances, or set a target pace for an upcoming race. It is especially handy for interval training, where you need to hit a specific pace per kilometer, or for planning a long walk or hike.
For example, if you run 5 km in 30 minutes, your pace is 6:00 min/km and your speed is 10 km/h. If you want to finish a half marathon (21.1 km) in 2 hours, you need a pace of about 5:41 min/km.
How to Read the Results
The pace result is shown in minutes per kilometer (min/km). A lower number means you are moving faster (e.g., 4:30 min/km is faster than 6:00 min/km). The speed result is shown in kilometers per hour (km/h) – a higher number means faster. For US users, you can convert: 1 mile = 1.609 km, so 10 km ≈ 6.2 miles. A pace of 5:00 min/km equals about 8:03 per mile.
Common Mistakes and Limitations
- Unit mix-ups: Entering time in hours instead of minutes will give a pace that is 60 times too fast. Always convert hours to minutes (1 hour = 60 minutes).
- Distance in miles: If you ran in miles, convert to km first (miles × 1.609 = km) or the pace will be too slow.
- Rounding: The calculator rounds to two decimal places. For a pace like 5:40, it shows 5.67 min/km, which is fine for planning but not as precise as a stopwatch.
This formula assumes a steady pace throughout. If you run with varying speed (e.g., sprints), the average pace won’t reflect your actual splits – it’s just the overall average.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert my pace to miles per minute?
To get minutes per mile, multiply your pace in min/km by 1.609. For example, 5.00 min/km × 1.609 = 8.05 min/mile (about 8:03 per mile).
What is a good running pace for a beginner?
For a beginner, a comfortable pace is often between 6:30 and 8:00 min/km (10:30–12:50 per mile). This varies widely with age, fitness, and terrain. The calculator helps you find your current average, not a target.
Can I use this for walking or cycling?
Yes, the formula works for any activity where you cover distance over time. For walking, a typical pace is 12–15 min/km (about 3–5 km/h). For cycling, you might see 20–30 km/h.
Why does the calculator show pace as a decimal instead of minutes and seconds?
Decimals are easier for quick math. To convert 5.67 min/km to minutes and seconds: take the decimal 0.67 × 60 = 40 seconds, so 5:40 min/km. The calculator rounds to two decimals, so 5.67 is approximate.
How do I calculate pace for a marathon?
Enter the total time you want (e.g., 240 minutes for 4 hours) and the marathon distance (42.195 km). The calculator will give you the required pace per km and the equivalent speed.
