Full Throttle Remastered Free on GOG?
No, Full Throttle Remastered is not currently free on GOG. It is a paid title, usually priced around $14.99, though it occasionally appears in sales or as part of a bundle. You can get it legally for free only if you claim it during a limited-time giveaway, which GOG has done in the past for other titles, but there is no permanent free version.
What Is Full Throttle Remastered?
Full Throttle Remastered is a 2017 re-release of the classic 1995 point-and-click adventure game by LucasArts (now Lucasfilm Games). The remaster was developed by Double Fine Productions, led by original creator Tim Schafer, and published by Lucasfilm. It updates the original with hand-drawn high-resolution art, remastered audio, and modern quality-of-life features while preserving the original story, puzzles, and dialogue.
The game follows Ben Throttle, leader of the biker gang Polecats, who is framed for murder and must clear his name while uncovering a corporate conspiracy. It is a landmark in adventure gaming, known for its gritty world, memorable characters, and a soundtrack by the band Gone Jackals.
Is There a Legal Way to Get It Free?
The only legitimate way to get Full Throttle Remastered for free is through a promotional giveaway. GOG occasionally offers games for free for a limited time, and Full Throttle Remastered was given away on GOG in 2021 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the LucasArts adventure games. That promotion has ended, and there is no official ongoing free offer.
If you see a “free download elsewhere, it is likely a pirated copy, which is illegal and may contain malware. Always check the official GOG store page for any current promotions.
What Does the Remaster Add Over the Original?
The remaster is more than a simple port. It includes:
- Redrawn high-resolution backgrounds and character sprites (up to 4K support).
- Remastered audio with improved sound effects and music.
- A new “commentary mode with developer insights.
- Concept art gallery and original design documents.
- An in-game “switch to toggle between original and remastered graphics instantly.
- Modern interface options, including a hint system and improved UI.
It also runs on modern operating systems without requiring DOSBox or emulation, making it much easier to play today than the original 1995 release.

Is the Price Worth It?
At its regular price of $14.99, Full Throttle Remastered is generally considered a fair value for a classic adventure game. It offers about 6–10 hours of gameplay, depending on your puzzle-solving speed, and the remastered visuals and commentary add significant replay value. During sales, it often drops to around $3.99–$7.49, which is an excellent price.
If you’re a fan of adventure games or classic LucasArts titles, the remaster is widely praised for its faithfulness and polish. If you’re unsure, you can watch gameplay videos or read reviews to decide if the style appeals to you.
Common Misconceptions and Pitfalls
One common misconception is that the remaster is available for free on GOG because of the 2021 giveaway. That was a limited-time offer, not a permanent freebie. Another misconception is that the original 1995 game is the same as the remaster; while the story is identical, the remaster has enhanced graphics and audio, so it is a distinct product.
A potential pitfall is buying the game on a platform other than GOG if you specifically want the DRM-free version. The remaster is also available on Steam, but that version requires Steam to run. GOG’s version is the only one that is fully DRM-free.
Alternatives to Getting It Free
If you don’t want to pay, consider these legitimate alternatives:
- Wait for a GOG sale or a future giveaway (follow GOG’s social media for announcements).
- Check if it’s included in a subscription service like Xbox Game Pass (it was added to Game Pass for PC in 2021, but availability can change).
- Play the original 1995 version via ScummVM, which is free and legal if you own a copy of the original game. However, you still need the original game files.
- Look for other free adventure games on GOG, such as Beneath a Steel Sky or The Journeyman Project, which are permanently free.
These options let you experience similar gameplay without spending money, though they won’t give you the remastered graphics.
Frequently Asked Questions
