Fisch energy crystals are found in the Glacial Grotto, a hidden cave on the northern edge of the map. You need a GPS and a pickaxe to reach and break them, and each crystal gives you a random amount of energy that powers your boat’s boost. This guide covers exactly where to go, what to bring, and how to farm them efficiently.
Formula
The calculator works out your mining rate: crystals per hour = (crystals found) ÷ (time spent in minutes ÷ 60). Enter how many minutes you spent in the cave and how many crystals you collected, and it returns your average per hour. This helps you compare different routes or loadouts.
Worked Example
Using the defaults: you spend 10 minutes in the cave and find 5 crystals. Divide 5 by (10 ÷ 60) = 5 ÷ 0.1667 = 30. So your rate is 30 crystals per hour. That is a realistic pace for a focused run with a good pickaxe.
Where Exactly Are the Crystals?
The Glacial Grotto is not marked on the map. You need a GPS (bought from the General Store for 200C$) to navigate. Head to the far north-west corner of the map, past the icebergs, until you see a small rocky island with a narrow opening at sea level. Park your boat and swim or walk into the cave. Inside, you will see glowing cyan crystals embedded in the walls and floor. They respawn every 10–15 minutes, so you can stay in the cave and wait, or leave and come back.
What Do You Need to Mine Them?
- Pickaxe – buy the basic one from the General Store for 150C$. It breaks crystals in 3 hits. The Reinforced Pickaxe (500C$) breaks in 2 hits, and the Golden Pickaxe (1,200C$) breaks in 1 hit.
- GPS – costs 200C$, needed to find the grotto.
- Boat with boost – any boat works, but a faster boat reduces travel time. The energy crystals fuel your boost, so you can use them immediately.
How Many Crystals Do You Get?
Each crystal node gives 1–3 energy crystals. A full cave run typically yields 8–12 crystals. The energy value of each crystal is random: you might get 5, 10, or 20 energy. On average, a single crystal gives about 10 energy. Your boat’s boost bar maxes out at 100 energy, so a full run fills it once or twice.
Common Mistakes and Myths
Many players think crystals only spawn at night – that is false; they are always there. Another mistake is using a weak pickaxe; the basic one works but is slow, so you might only get 6–8 crystals per run. Also, do not forget to bring a GPS – without it, you can wander for 20 minutes and find nothing. Finally, the crystals do not respawn instantly; wait 10 minutes after breaking the last one.
How to Farm Efficiently
- Buy a GPS and the best pickaxe you can afford.
- Set your spawn point at the nearest dock (e.g., Moosewood) to save travel time.
- Use a fast boat with a high boost capacity (like the Jet Ski or the Speedboat).
- Mine every crystal in the cave, then wait 10 minutes for respawn – or leave and do a different activity, then return.
- Consider using the energy crystals immediately to boost back to shore, saving fuel.
Alternatives to Energy Crystals
If you cannot reach the Glacial Grotto yet (you need a boat and 350C$ for the GPS and basic pickaxe), you can buy boat fuel at the dock for 10C$ per unit. Fuel is simpler but costs money. Energy crystals are free but require time and a pickaxe. Another alternative is completing boat races – they give you boost energy as a reward, but they are time-limited events.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do energy crystals respawn?
Yes, they respawn every 10–15 minutes after you break them. You can wait inside the cave or leave and return later.
Can I mine crystals without a pickaxe?
No, you need a pickaxe. The basic one is sold at the General Store for 150C$. Without it, you cannot break the crystal nodes.
What is the fastest way to get to the Glacial Grotto?
Use a GPS and head north-west from Moosewood. The cave is at the edge of the map, near a cluster of icebergs. A fast boat like the Jet Ski takes about 2 minutes from Moosewood.
How much energy does one crystal give?
Each crystal gives between 5 and 20 energy, with an average of about 10. The amount is random, so you might need 5–10 crystals to fully fill your boost bar.
Are there other places to find energy crystals?
Currently, the Glacial Grotto is the only known location. The developers may add more in future updates, but as of now, this is the sole source.
