Find Venmo Pending Split & Scheduled Payments

To find Venmo requests that are pending, split, or scheduled, open the Venmo app and tap the Incomplete tab (or Pending on some versions) at the top of the Payments screen. This shows all requests you’ve sent that haven’t been paid yet, including split requests awaiting a response and scheduled payments that haven’t processed. You can also filter by “Sent” or “Received” to see pending items from either side.

Background: How Venmo Handles Pending, Split, and Scheduled Payments

Venmo is a peer-to-peer payment app owned by PayPal, launched in 2009. It lets users send money, request money, split bills, and schedule future payments. Understanding the difference between these three states is key to managing your activity:

  • Pending request: A request you sent that the other person hasn’t accepted or paid yet. It stays in your “Incomplete” list until paid, declined, or canceled.
  • Split request: A request you send to multiple people at once (e.g., splitting a dinner bill). Each person receives a separate request, and each can pay or ignore it independently. The split is complete only when all recipients have paid.
  • Scheduled payment: A payment you set to send automatically on a future date (e.g., rent or a subscription). It appears as “Scheduled” in your activity until the date arrives, then it processes and shows as a completed payment.

Venmo does not charge fees for standard bank or Venmo balance payments, but instant transfers to a debit card incur a fee. Scheduled payments are a relatively recent feature, rolled out gradually to users; not everyone has it yet.

How to Find Pending Split Requests

To see all your pending split requests (both sent and received):

  1. Open the Venmo app on your phone.
  2. Tap the Payments icon (the two-arrow symbol) at the bottom of the screen.
  3. At the top, you’ll see tabs: Complete, Incomplete, and sometimes Pending. Tap Incomplete.
  4. Here, you’ll see a list of all requests you’ve sent that haven’t been paid. Split requests show the names of all recipients and how much each owes.
  5. Tap any request to see details, including who has paid and who hasn’t.

If you’re the recipient of a split request, it will appear in your Incomplete tab as well, under “Received.” You can pay your portion there.

How to Find Scheduled Payments

Scheduled payments are trickier to locate because they don’t appear in the standard “Incomplete” list. Here’s how to find them:

  1. Go to your Payments screen.
  2. Tap the Complete tab (or “All” on some versions).
  3. Look for a payment with a calendar icon and the label “Scheduled.” It will show the future date and the amount.
  4. Tap on it to see options to Edit or Cancel the scheduled payment.

If you don’t see a scheduled payment there, it may be in your Activity feed. Scroll through your recent activity; scheduled payments appear with a clock icon. You can also search for the recipient’s name in the search bar at the top of the Payments screen.

How to Cancel or Edit a Pending Split or Scheduled Payment

If you need to cancel a pending split request (because someone already paid you in cash, for example) or edit a scheduled payment:

  • Cancel a pending split: Go to the Incomplete tab, tap the request, then tap the three dots in the top-right corner and select Cancel Request. This removes the request for all recipients.
  • Edit a scheduled payment: Find the scheduled payment in your Complete tab or Activity, tap it, then tap Edit. You can change the amount, date, or recipient. Tap Cancel to delete it entirely.

Note: You can only cancel a pending request if no one has paid yet. Once someone pays, the request becomes complete and you cannot cancel it.

Common Problems and Misconceptions

One common issue is that users confuse “Pending” with “Incomplete.” In Venmo, “Pending” sometimes refers to a payment that is still processing (e.g., from your bank), not a request awaiting action. That’s why you might see a payment stuck in “Pending” for a few business days.

Another misconception is that split requests automatically combine into one payment. They don’t. Each person pays separately, and you receive separate deposits. If someone doesn’t pay, you can send a reminder by tapping the request and selecting Remind.

Also, scheduled payments are not available on the web version of Venmo. You can only create, view, or cancel them in the mobile app.

Safety and Privacy Tips

Venmo transactions are public by default, meaning your activity feed is visible to friends. To keep your pending splits and scheduled payments private:

  • Change your privacy settings to “Private” in the app (Settings > Privacy). This hides your activity from others.
  • Never share your Venmo login or password with anyone. Venmo support will never ask for your password.
  • Be cautious when sending money to strangers; Venmo is designed for friends and trusted contacts. There is no buyer protection for goods or services unless you use the “Goods and Services” option (which charges a fee).
  • If you receive a suspicious request, don’t pay it. You can report it to Venmo support.

Alternatives to Venmo for Splitting and Scheduling

If Venmo’s pending/split/scheduled features aren’t meeting your needs, consider these alternatives:

  • PayPal: Venmo’s parent company offers similar features, including splitting and scheduled payments (via “Send later”). It also has buyer protection.
  • Zelle: Direct bank-to-bank transfers with no app balance, but no social feed or split request feature. It’s fast but doesn’t allow scheduling.
  • Cash App: Allows splitting and recurring payments (for some users), but has a different fee structure.
  • Splitwise: Not a payment app, but a dedicated expense-splitting tracker that integrates with Venmo, PayPal, and others to settle balances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why don’t I see the “Incomplete” tab?

The “Incomplete” tab appears only if you have pending requests. If you don’t see it, you have no pending items. On some app versions, it’s labeled “Pending.” Make sure your app is updated to the latest version.

Can I schedule a Venmo payment from my computer?

No. Scheduled payments are only available in the mobile app. The web version only allows sending and requesting money immediately.

What happens if a scheduled payment fails?

If your bank account or Venmo balance has insufficient funds, the scheduled payment will fail. Venmo will notify you, and you can retry or cancel it. There may be a fee for failed payments if you have a business profile.

How do I see who hasn’t paid in a split request?

Tap the split request in your Incomplete tab. It shows a list of recipients with a checkmark next to those who paid and a clock icon for those who haven’t.

Can I send a reminder for a pending split?

Yes. Open the pending request, tap the three dots, and select Remind. The recipient will get a notification. You can do this as often as you like.

Are there fees for scheduled payments?

No. Scheduled payments use the same fee structure as regular payments: free if funded by your Venmo balance or linked bank account, 1.75% (with a minimum of $0.25) for instant transfers to a debit card.
