Enshrouded 1.0 Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells

In Enshrouded’s 1.0 release, Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells are fixed-world objectives found in Shroud-covered areas, and clearing each one grants a skill point. Their locations are spread across Embervale, so use the region and landmark guide below to find them; the map does not provide a single numbered checklist that is consistent across every guide or map version.

What Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells do

Both objectives are large, dangerous growths surrounded by Shroud. Reach the site, defeat the enemies guarding it, and interact with the root or well’s central growth to destroy it. The reward is a skill point, which you spend in the Skills menu. They are therefore worth prioritizing when you want more build options, especially early in a character’s progression.

They are related, but not interchangeable in how they appear on the map. A Shroud Root is generally encountered as a root-like mass in a Shroud pocket or structure. An Elixir Well is a larger, distinct Shroud site, often with a more involved approach and a boss or strong enemy nearby. Both can be cleared permanently, and each provides one skill point.

How to locate every site reliably

Enshrouded’s map is large, and the safest way to make a complete list for your own save is to reveal the map and mark each discovered objective rather than rely on a copied coordinate list. World layout and progression systems can change between game versions, while fan-made maps may use different names or omit sites. In the 1.0 world, search Shroud areas across each unlocked region, paying particular attention to ruins, settlements, and marked structures within the fog.

  • Climb Ancient Spires and other high points to reveal surrounding terrain. A revealed map makes it easier to distinguish Shroud pockets and nearby landmarks.
  • Explore the perimeter of each Shroud zone. Roots and wells are usually attached to a recognizable site, not hidden randomly in open countryside.
  • Check map icons and quest or exploration prompts when near a location. Some objectives become apparent only after you have explored close enough.
  • Place a custom marker as soon as you spot a site. Use a separate marker color or label for roots and wells so you can track which kind remains.
  • After clearing a site, verify that its map marker or objective state has changed before removing your marker.

A fixed coordinate list can be useful when paired with a map made for the same release, but coordinates alone are often unhelpful: they do not explain the nearest landmark, approach route, or whether the listed location is a root or a well. If you are using a community map, confirm that its legend and version match the game you are playing.

Regional search route

Rather than crisscross the world, clear objectives as you advance through the regions. Start with the lower-level Shroud around the starting area, then follow the natural progression into more dangerous territory. Explore around settlements and major ruins whenever you enter a new region; these landmarks make good anchors for a systematic sweep.

  1. Reveal the nearby map from an Ancient Spire or other vantage point.
  2. Mark every visible Shroud pocket and visit them one at a time, approaching from safe ground where possible.
  3. Search the pocket’s structures, lower passages, and raised platforms. A site can be easy to miss if you only follow the most obvious road.
  4. Return to your map and compare cleared areas with unexplored gaps before moving on to the next region.

There is no need to clear every root and well immediately. Some Shroud zones are beyond your current equipment or Flame progression. Mark those sites and return later rather than spending repeated attempts on enemies that substantially outmatch you.

Preparing for a Shroud site

Shroud locations combine combat with an environmental timer. Before entering, check your Shroud time and health, carry healing items and a suitable weapon, and make sure you have room to retreat. The Flame Altar’s level affects how far you can push into the Shroud, while upgrades to your Flame can improve your ability to explore more dangerous areas.

  • Approach with enough Shroud time to fight and leave. Do not assume the timer will reset because you have reached the objective.
  • Deal with nearby enemies before interacting with the central growth. Being interrupted during a fight can make the objective harder to finish safely.
  • Look for stairs, ladders, ledges, and alternate entrances. A direct route may lead through enemies or a hazardous passage.
  • Bring equipment suited to the enemies you expect to face, and repair or replace worn gear before a long expedition.

Rewards, progression, and common misconceptions

Each Shroud Root or Elixir Well cleared awards one skill point. That is a direct progression reward; the sites are not a source of unlimited points, and destroying one does not itself grant a full level or a particular skill. You choose how to spend the point on the skill tree, so the best target is often the one that fits your build or unlocks a useful route through the tree.

A frequent misconception is that an objective has been cleared just because its enemies are dead. Look for the actual central growth and interact with it. If you leave before completing that interaction, the objective may remain active. Another common mix-up is treating every large Shroud structure as a well: use the map label and the objective’s appearance to distinguish it from a root.

When a location seems missing

If a guide says a root or well should be nearby but you cannot find it, first verify that the guide is for the 1.0 release and that it names the same region. Then check elevation and nearby buildings rather than searching only at ground level. Some routes pass through an entrance, down into a lower area, or up to a platform that is not obvious from the map.

Also make sure you have not already cleared the site. A depleted growth or changed objective marker can be easy to overlook when revisiting a location. If enemies respawn or the area looks active, that alone does not prove the root is still intact; inspect the central objective itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells both give skill points?
Yes. Clearing either type awards one skill point, which you can spend in the Skills menu.

Can I find every location from the starting area?
No. Sites are spread across the world, and some lie in regions that are more dangerous or require further progression. Reveal and explore regions as you advance.

Do I have to clear every root and well to finish the game?
They are optional exploration and progression objectives rather than a requirement to clear every site. Their skill points can make character progression more flexible.

Why is a Shroud Root or Elixir Well still marked after I killed everything?
You may need to interact with the central growth itself. Defeating the guards does not necessarily complete the objective.

Do cleared sites come back?
The objective’s growth is cleared permanently for that world, though enemies or other activity in the surrounding area may not behave as a permanent clear indicator.

What is the safest way to track locations?
Use the in-game map, place custom markers, and cross off each site only after the central objective is destroyed. If using a community map, check that it matches the 1.0 world and its naming conventions.
