Enshrouded All Ancient Spire Locations
This guide lists every Ancient Spire location in Enshrouded’s current 1.0 release, what you get for activating each one, and how to use them for fast travel. There are six Ancient Spires in the base game, each tied to a major region, and one more in the game’s first major content update area. Activating a Spire permanently unlocks it as a fast travel point for that character, and each one also serves as a hub for nearby quests and points of interest.
What Ancient Spires Do
Ancient Spires are tall, glowing towers that act as the main fast travel network in Enshrouded. When you approach one for the first time, you need to climb to the top and interact with the glowing rune at the summit. Doing so activates the Spire and adds it to your map fast travel list. You can then teleport to any activated Spire from anywhere on the map, as long as you are not in combat or inside the Shroud.
Each Spire also reveals a large portion of the map around it when activated, similar to a viewpoint in other open-world games. This makes them essential for navigation and for locating other points of interest like Ancient Vaults, Elixir Wells, and Flame Shrines.
All Ancient Spire Locations in the Base Game
There are six Ancient Spires in the base game, one in each major region. They are listed below in a logical order for a new playthrough, but you can visit them in any order you like.
- Springlands Spire – Located in the central-south part of the Springlands, just north of the starting area. It is the first Spire most players will find, and it overlooks the early game zones like the Braelyn Bridge and the first Elixir Well.
- Revelwood Spire – Found in the western part of the Revelwood region, on a high cliff above the Shroud-covered valley. It is close to the Ancient Vault of the Hunt and the Pikemead’s Reach area.
- Nomad Highlands Spire – Situated in the northern Nomad Highlands, near the edge of the desert. It is a key waypoint for exploring the Kindlewastes and the eastern parts of the highlands.
- Kindlewastes Spire – In the eastern Kindlewastes, on a rocky plateau. This Spire is essential for navigating the late-game desert zones and the Sun Temple.
- Low Meadows Spire – Located in the southern Low Meadows, close to the border with the Springlands. It is a useful early-to-mid game hub for the southern areas.
- Alpine Spire (also called the Mountain Spire) – High in the northern mountains, in the area known as the Alabaster Peaks. This is the highest and most remote Spire, and it is needed to reach the late-game areas like the Frozen Hollow.
The Spire in the Hallowed Halls Update
With the 1.0 release and the accompanying content updates, a seventh Ancient Spire was added in the new region introduced in the Hallowed Halls update. This Spire is located in the Mire region, a swampy area to the east of the Kindlewastes. It is called the Mire Spire and is essential for navigating the new biome, which features the Hallowed Halls dungeon and the new boss encounters. Activating it follows the same process as the others: climb to the top and interact with the rune.
How to Activate a Spire
Activating a Spire is straightforward but can be challenging due to the platforming involved. Here are the steps:
- Approach the base of the Spire and look for the entrance, which is usually a doorway or a gap in the structure.
- Climb the interior using the platforms, ledges, and sometimes grappling hook points. Some Spires require the Grappling Hook upgrade to reach the top.
- At the summit, you will find a glowing rune on a pedestal. Interact with it.
- You will see a brief animation and a message confirming the Spire is activated.
- The Spire will now appear on your map as a fast travel point.
Note that you do not need to defeat any enemies to activate a Spire, but some Spires have enemies guarding the interior, so be prepared to fight or avoid them.
Why You Should Activate Every Spire
Activating all Spires is not just for convenience; it is also tied to progression and exploration.
- Fast Travel: Each Spire is a permanent fast travel point. This saves a huge amount of time when moving between distant regions.
- Map Reveal: Activating a Spire reveals a large circle of the map around it, making it much easier to spot landmarks, quest markers, and other points of interest.
- Quests: Many main and side quests will send you to or near a Spire. Activating them early ensures you have a quick way back to those areas.
- Resource Farming: Some of the best resource nodes, like rare ores and plants, are located near Spires. Having them unlocked makes farming runs faster.
- Base Building: If you build a base near a Spire, you can teleport to the Spire and then glide to your base, which is often faster than using a summoning staff.
Common Problems and Misconceptions
One common issue players run into is not being able to activate a Spire because they lack the required upgrade. For example, the Alpine Spire requires the Grappling Hook to reach the top. If you try to climb it without the hook, you will get stuck. Make sure you have the necessary tools from the Blacksmith before attempting the higher-level Spires.
Another misconception is that Spires are only for fast travel. While that is their primary function, they also serve as excellent vantage points for scouting and for gliding to distant locations. You can jump off a Spire and glide for a long distance, which is a great way to explore.
Some players think that Spires are tied to the main story and cannot be activated early. That is not true. You can activate any Spire as soon as you can physically reach it, even if you are underleveled. The only requirement is that you have the necessary tools to climb it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to activate all Spires to finish the game?
No, activating all Spires is not required to finish the main story. However, it is highly recommended because it makes travel and exploration much easier. Some side quests may require you to visit a specific Spire, but the main quest line does not force you to activate all of them.
Can I fast travel to a Spire I haven’t activated?
No, you can only fast travel to Spires that you have activated. The map will show unactivated Spires as greyed out or with a different icon, and you cannot select them as a destination.
What is the best order to activate the Spires?
The best order is generally the order you explore the regions: Springlands first, then Revelwood, Nomad Highlands, Kindlewastes, Low Meadows, and finally Alpine. The Mire Spire is in the late-game area, so you will likely activate it last. However, you can go out of order if you want to explore a specific region early.
Do Spires reset or need to be re-activated?
No, once a Spire is activated, it stays activated for that character permanently. You do not need to re-activate it when you log back in or after a server restart.
Are there any Spires in the DLC or expansions?
As of the current 1.0 content updates, there is one additional Spire in the Mire region added with the Hallowed Halls update. Future updates may add more, but that is the only one outside the original six at this time.
Can I build a base on top of a Spire?
No, you cannot build directly on a Spire structure. However, you can build a base near the base of a Spire. Many players do this to have a quick teleport point close to their base.
