Clash of Clans Super Troops: Requirements, Cost & Training

Super Troops in Clash of Clans are boosted versions of regular troops with enhanced stats and unique abilities. To unlock one, you must have a Level 5 Clan Castle, be Town Hall 10 or higher, and boost the corresponding regular troop to its maximum level; each boost costs 25,000 Dark Elixir and lasts for 7 days. After activation, you can train Super Troops normally in your Army Camp or Barracks, but each Super Troop occupies a set housing space and counts as its own unit.

What Are Super Troops?

Super Troops were introduced in the June 2019 update as a way to give veteran players new strategic options. They are not separate troops you unlock permanently; rather, you temporarily “boost” a regular troop that is already maxed out for your Town Hall. During the boost period, the regular troop’s icon in the Army Camp is replaced by the Super Troop version, and you can train as many as you want (subject to housing space). When the 7-day boost expires, you revert to the normal troop unless you pay the Dark Elixir again to re-boost.

Requirements to Unlock Super Troops

Before you can boost any Super Troop, you must meet three basic conditions:

  • Town Hall 10 or above – Super Troops are not available to lower Town Halls.
  • Level 5 Clan Castle – This is required to access the Super Troop boosting interface (the “Super Troop” tab in the Clan Castle).
  • Max level of the regular troop – For example, to boost Super Barbarian, you must have Barbarians upgraded to the maximum level allowed at your Town Hall (e.g., level 9 at Town Hall 15).

If you meet these, you can activate a boost from the Clan Castle screen. The boost is applied to your entire army, not per troop, so all your Barracks and Army Camps will produce the Super Troop version until the timer ends.

Cost and Duration of Boosts

Each Super Troop boost costs 25,000 Dark Elixir and lasts for 7 days. This cost is the same for every Super Troop, regardless of which one you choose. You can only have two Super Troops boosted at the same time (this was increased from one in a later update). If you want to switch to a different Super Troop, you must either wait for the current boost to expire or pay to boost the new one (which will replace one of the active boosts). The Dark Elixir is deducted immediately when you activate the boost, and there is no refund if you cancel early.

Training Super Troops

Once a Super Troop is boosted, training is straightforward:

  1. Open your Army Camp or Barracks.
  2. Select the Super Troop icon (it appears with a purple/blue glow).
  3. Train as many as you want, limited by housing space.

Super Troops have their own housing space values, which are generally higher than the regular version. For example, Super Barbarian takes 5 housing spaces (same as normal Barbarian), but Super Archer takes 8 (vs. 4 for normal Archer). Training time is the same as the regular troop (e.g., Super Barbarian trains in 20 seconds, same as a Barbarian). They also cost the same resources as the regular troop (elixir or dark elixir) – the boost cost is separate.

List of Super Troops and Their Stats

As of the latest updates, there are over 20 Super Troops. Here are a few examples with key stats (levels are max for Town Hall 15):

  • Super Barbarian – Housing: 5, DPS: 180, HP: 350, ability: Rage (increases damage and speed when damaged).
  • Super Archer – Housing: 8, DPS: 120, HP: 300, ability: Invisibility (turns invisible when not attacking).
  • Super Wall Breaker – Housing: 8, DPS: 200 (on walls), HP: 400, ability: Wall Breaker (can jump over walls and deals massive damage to walls).
  • Super Minion – Housing: 6, DPS: 110, HP: 200, ability: none (but has faster attack speed).
  • Super Witch – Housing: 20, DPS: 100, HP: 1000, ability: summons two skeletons instead of one.

Note that stats change with each Town Hall level, so always check your in-game info for exact numbers.

How to Choose Which Super Troop to Boost

Your choice depends on your attack strategy. If you use ground armies, Super Barbarians or Super Wall Breakers can be devastating. For air attacks, Super Minions or Super Balloons (if available) are strong. For hybrid strategies, Super Archer or Super Witch can provide support. Consider your Clan Castle troops too – some Super Troops are excellent for defense (e.g., Super Minion in the Clan Castle can be annoying). Also, think about cost: 25k DE is significant, so only boost when you plan to attack frequently that week.

Common Mistakes and Misconceptions

  • Thinking you need to upgrade the Super Troop separately – No, the Super Troop’s level is always the same as your regular troop’s max level. You don’t spend resources to upgrade it.
  • Boosting without a plan – If you boost and then don’t attack much, you waste 25k DE. Try to time boosts with Clan War Leagues or farming sessions.
  • Forgetting that the boost is per account, not per device – It’s tied to your village, so it works on any device you log in on.
  • Assuming all Super Troops are unlocked at Town Hall 10 – Some Super Troops require higher Town Halls (e.g., Super Golem requires Town Hall 12). Check the in-game requirements for each.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I boost a Super Troop if I don’t have max level regular troops?

No, you must have the regular troop at its maximum level for your Town Hall. If you are Town Hall 12 and your Barbarians are level 8 (max for TH11), you cannot boost Super Barbarian until you upgrade them to level 9 (max for TH12).

What happens if my Town Hall is upgraded during a boost?

If you upgrade your Town Hall while a Super Troop boost is active, the boost continues until the 7 days end. However, if the regular troop’s max level increases with the new Town Hall, you won’t be able to re-boost until you upgrade the troop to the new max.

Can I use Super Troops in the Clan Castle for defense?

Yes, you can donate Super Troops to clanmates for defense, but only if you have the boost active. The recipient does not need to have the boost themselves – they just receive the troop as a donation.

Do Super Troops cost more to train than regular troops?

No, the training cost (elixir or dark elixir) is the same as the regular troop. The only extra cost is the 25,000 Dark Elixir boost fee, which is paid once per week per Super Troop.

Can I have two of the same Super Troop boosted?

No, you can only boost each Super Troop once at a time. You can have two different Super Troops boosted simultaneously, but not two of the same.

What is the best Super Troop for farming?

For farming resources, Super Barbarians and Super Archers are popular because they are cheap, fast to train, and can snipe collectors. Super Goblins (if you have them) are also excellent for stealing loot due to their speed and invisibility.
