Change Your Life360 Profile Picture: Step-by-Step

To change your Life360 picture, open the app, go to your profile, and edit the profile photo; the exact controls can vary slightly by app version. You can usually choose an image from your phone’s photo library or take a new one, then save the change.

Change Your Life360 Profile Picture

  1. Open Life360 and sign in to the account whose picture you want to change.
  2. Tap your profile icon or avatar. Depending on the app layout, you may need to tap the Settings gear first and then open your profile.
  3. Tap the profile photo, avatar, or edit control beside your name.
  4. Choose an available option, such as selecting a photo from your library or taking a new picture.
  5. Adjust the crop if prompted, then tap Save, Done, or the equivalent confirmation control.

Return to your profile to check whether the new image appears. If the app asks for photo access, allow the access needed to choose an image. On some phones, you can grant access to selected photos rather than your entire library.

What the Profile Picture Does

A Life360 profile picture helps identify a member in the app. It is different from a Place photo, a Circle name, or a picture attached to a separate post or feature. Changing your account photo should not change your name, Circle membership, location-sharing settings, or the photos and settings of other members.

Life360’s interface can change over time, and menu wording may differ between iPhone and Android or between app versions. If you do not see an edit icon beside the picture, open the profile or account settings and look for a photo or personal-information control. Avoid assuming that tapping a Circle member’s map marker edits that member’s account: you can generally change only the profile information for the account you are signed into.

Choose and Crop a Photo

Pick an image that is easy to recognize at the small size used for an avatar. A centered face, a clear pet portrait, or a simple graphic is usually easier to distinguish than a wide group photo or a detailed landscape. If several people appear in the image, cropping may make it unclear which person the profile represents.

  • Use a sharp, well-lit image with the main subject near the center.
  • Check the crop preview; a square or circular avatar may cut off parts of a portrait.
  • Choose an image you are comfortable showing to people who can see your profile in the app.
  • If the selected picture does not appear in the picker, check the phone’s photo permissions and try a different image stored on the device.

There may not be a built-in collection of decorative profile pictures available to every account. If you want an illustrated avatar rather than a photograph, you can use an image already saved to your phone, provided it meets the app’s current requirements.

If the Change Does Not Work

First, confirm that you completed the final save or confirmation step. Selecting a photo may only open the crop screen; leaving that screen without confirming can discard the change. Then reopen your profile to see whether the image updated.

  • The photo picker is empty: Check Life360’s photo permissions in your phone’s Settings. If access is limited to selected photos, add the image you want to use.
  • The app cannot upload or save: Check that the phone has a working internet connection, then try again. A temporary connection problem can prevent an online profile change from completing.
  • The old picture still appears: Close and reopen the app, then check the profile again. The change may take a little time to appear in other views or on other members’ devices.
  • The edit option is missing: Make sure you are viewing your own profile, not another Circle member’s details. Look in profile or account settings, and check whether an app update is available.
  • The image is rejected or looks wrong: Try a different, standard photo from your library and adjust the crop. Image-format or file issues can sometimes interfere with selection or display.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, use Life360’s in-app Help or support options. Do not share your password or sign-in verification codes with someone claiming they need them to change a profile picture.

Privacy and Visibility

A profile image is identifying information. Before choosing a photo, consider who can see your account within the Circles or app features you use, and avoid including details you do not want to share, such as a visible address, school badge, or other sensitive information in the background.

Changing a picture is not the same as changing location sharing. If your concern is who can see your location, review the app’s location-sharing controls separately; changing or removing an avatar should not be treated as a way to pause or hide location information. Similarly, deleting a photo from Life360 may not remove the original image from your phone’s library.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my Life360 picture from the website?
Profile-picture editing is generally handled in the mobile app. If you are using a browser and cannot find an edit control, try the app and check its profile settings.

Why can’t I change another person’s Life360 picture?
The picture belongs to that person’s account. Sign in to your own account to edit your profile; another Circle member generally needs to change their own picture.

Does changing my profile picture affect location sharing?
No. The profile photo and location-sharing controls are separate. Check the location settings directly if you want to change who can see your location.

Why is my new Life360 picture not showing for everyone?
The app or another member’s device may still be displaying an older view. Reopen the app, check your own profile, and allow time for the updated image to appear elsewhere.

Can I remove my Life360 profile picture?
If the current app provides a remove-photo or reset-avatar option, use it in the profile editor. If no such option appears, choose another image or contact Life360 support for guidance on the available choices.
