Can You Stream Venom: Let There Be Carnage on HBO Max?
No, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is not available on HBO Max. The film is part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, and Sony has its own streaming agreements. As of 2024, the movie streams on Netflix in the US, and it can be rented or purchased on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Vudu.
Where the Movie Currently Streams
Sony Pictures has a pay-one window deal with Netflix, which means most of their recent theatrical releases, including Venom: Let There Be Carnage, land on Netflix after their theatrical and home-video runs. The film was added to Netflix in the US in 2022 and has remained there on a rotating basis. If you have a Netflix subscription, that is the most likely place to find it without paying extra. In other countries, the availability differs—some regions have it on Disney+ (via a Sony output deal) or on local services like Stan in Australia. Always check a streaming aggregator like JustWatch for your specific country.
Why It Is Not on HBO Max
HBO Max (now simply Max) is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, and its streaming library is built around Warner Bros. films and HBO originals. Sony Pictures has never had a blanket output deal with Warner Bros. for its theatrical releases. Instead, Sony has partnered with Netflix (for the US pay-one window) and Disney (for certain international territories and for its library titles on Hulu and Disney+). Because Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a Sony title, it is not part of the Warner Bros. catalog that Max licenses. This is a rights issue, not a technical one—the film simply isn’t in the Max library.
How to Watch It on HBO Max (If You Really Want To)
There is no legitimate way to stream Venom: Let There Be Carnage on HBO Max itself. The only workaround is to use a third-party service that lets you link your HBO Max subscription to a platform like Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV Channels—but those services only show content that is available through those channels, and this film is not one of them. You cannot add a Sony title to your Max queue. If you see a link that claims to let you “watch it on HBO Max, it is almost certainly a phishing scam or a pirated stream. The only reliable ways to watch are:
- Netflix (if it is currently in your region’s catalog)
- Rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Vudu, or YouTube
- Check if your local library offers the DVD or Blu-ray
Renting vs. Buying vs. Subscribing
If you don’t have Netflix, renting is the most cost-effective option for a one-time watch. As of 2024, rental prices for Venom: Let There Be Carnage typically range from $3.99 to $4.99 in HD on most platforms. Buying the digital version usually costs around $9.99 to $14.99, depending on the store and any sales. If you already pay for Netflix, streaming it there is free with your subscription. If you only want to watch this one movie, renting is cheaper than subscribing to a new service. If you are a Marvel completionist, buying might make sense, but keep in mind that the film is often included in Netflix’s rotating catalog, so you might not need to own it.
Common Problems and How to Avoid Them
People often search for this movie on HBO Max because they confuse it with other Marvel-adjacent films that are on Max, like the Spider-Man trilogy (which is on Netflix and Starz, not Max) or Joker (which is a Warner Bros. film and is on Max). Another common issue is region-locking: even if you find the film on Netflix, it might not be available in your country. If you are traveling, you might see it on your home Netflix but not on the local one. Also, beware of fake streaming sites that use the HBO Max logo to trick you into downloading malware. Always use official apps or well-known services.
What About the Other Venom Movies?
The first Venom (2018) and the sequel Venom: The Last Dance (2024) are also Sony titles, so they follow the same streaming pattern. The 2018 film is also on Netflix in the US. The third film, released in late 2024, will likely go to Netflix after its home-video window, but it is not yet available on any streaming service as of early 2025. If you want to watch the trilogy in order, you will need to rent or buy the third one, or wait for it to hit a subscription service. None of the three are on HBO Max.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Venom: Let There Be Carnage on HBO Max in 2025?
No, it is not on HBO Max (Max) in 2025. The film’s streaming rights are with Netflix in the US, and there is no indication that Sony has licensed it to Max. You can check Max’s search function directly, but you will not find it.
Can I watch Venom 2 on Netflix?
Yes, in the United States, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is available on Netflix. It has been part of the Netflix catalog since 2022, though streaming libraries change, so it might not be there forever. If it is not on Netflix in your country, you can rent it elsewhere.
Why does Google say Venom 2 is on HBO Max?
Google sometimes shows incorrect or outdated information based on cached data or third-party sources. It might also be confusing the film with Venom (2018) which is on some services, or with other Sony titles that have appeared on Max in the past. Always check the official Max app or website for the most accurate availability.
Is Venom: Let There Be Carnage on Disney+?
In some international markets, yes. Sony has a deal with Disney that brings certain films to Disney+ and Hulu in specific territories, like Latin America and parts of Europe. In the US, it is not on Disney+; it is on Netflix. Your location determines where you can stream it.
How much does it cost to rent Venom 2?
Rental prices vary by platform and quality. On Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Vudu, you can typically rent it for $3.99 (SD) or $4.99 (HD). Sometimes there are promotional discounts, but that is the standard price range. Buying the digital version usually costs $9.99 to $14.99.
Will Venom: Let There Be Carnage ever come to HBO Max?
It is highly unlikely. Sony’s streaming contracts are long-term, and the film has already been in its pay-one window. Even after that window expires, Sony tends to cycle its titles among various services, but they have never licensed a major Marvel film to Max. Your best bet is to keep an eye on Netflix or rent it when you want to watch it.
