Blink Camera Screens: 3 Supported Setups & 2 Exceptions

Blink cameras support three main screen setups: a live view on your smartphone via the Blink app, a live view on an Amazon Echo Show or Fire TV, and recorded clip playback on either of those devices. The two exceptions are that you cannot display a continuous, always-on live feed on a dedicated monitor without a workaround, and you cannot view the feed on a non-Amazon smart display or TV platform natively. This article explains each supported setup, the two limitations, and how to get the most from your Blink system.

Formula

The average pace formula is:

pace (min/km) = total time (minutes) / distance (km)

The average speed formula is:

speed (km/h) = distance (km) / (total time (minutes) / 60)

Where:

  • total time is the time taken to cover the distance, in minutes.
  • distance is the distance covered, in kilometers.
  • pace is the time per kilometer, in minutes per kilometer.
  • speed is the distance per hour, in kilometers per hour.

Worked Example

Using the default values from the calculator (50 minutes for 10 km):

  1. Pace = 50 min / 10 km = 5.00 min/km
  2. Speed = 10 km / (50 min / 60) = 10 / 0.8333 = 12.00 km/h

So the average pace is 5:00 per kilometer, and the average speed is 12.0 km/h.

When to Use This Calculator

Use this calculator when you want to know your average pace or speed for a run, bike ride, walk, or any other activity where you know the total time and distance. It is especially useful for training plans that prescribe paces (e.g., “run 5K at 5:30 min/km”) or for comparing performance across different routes.

How to Read the Result

The pace result tells you how many minutes it takes to cover one kilometer (or mile, if you input miles). A lower pace means faster. The speed result tells you how many kilometers you cover in one hour. For example, a pace of 5:00 min/km is the same as 12 km/h. If you run on a treadmill that shows speed in mph, you can convert km/h to mph by dividing by 1.609.

Common Mistakes and Unit Mix-Ups

  • Mixing units: If you enter distance in miles but time in minutes, the pace will be in min/mile, not min/km. The calculator does not convert automatically.
  • Using seconds: If you enter time in seconds, the pace will be in seconds per km, which is not useful. Always convert to minutes.
  • Rounding too early: If you round the pace to the nearest minute, you lose precision. Keep at least two decimal places.

Limitations of the Formula

The formula assumes a constant speed. In reality, your pace varies with terrain, wind, and fatigue. The calculator gives an average, not a real-time pace. For interval training, you need a GPS watch or app that tracks instantaneous pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good pace for a beginner runner?

For a beginner, a comfortable pace might be around 7:00 to 8:00 min/km (8.5 to 7.5 km/h). This varies widely by age, fitness, and experience. The best pace is one you can maintain while holding a conversation.

How do I convert pace to speed?

Speed (km/h) = 60 / pace (min/km). For example, a pace of 5:00 min/km is 60 / 5 = 12 km/h. Conversely, pace = 60 / speed.

Should I use pace or speed for training?

Most runners use pace because it is easier to gauge effort on a given route. Speed is more common on treadmills and cycling. Both are useful; choose the one that matches your device.

Does this calculator work for walking?

Yes, the formula works for any activity where you know time and distance. A typical walking pace is 10-12 min/km (5-6 km/h).

What if I run on a track and know my lap times?

If you know your time for a known distance (e.g., 400m lap), you can enter that time and distance. For example, a 2-minute 400m lap is 2 min / 0.4 km = 5:00 min/km.
